In the first post I quoted you said "playing in the MAC is still...the MAC" but down-playing our team as being equal to the MAC. I recognize what you're trying to say, but it goes against your first attempt at making a point. Also, you said he should be able to at least compete in the bottom level of P5, and guess what, he has. Western Michigan might be the 3rd best team we'll have played this year behind UM and UW.

Edit: correction

Competing at the P5 level on a weekly basis is much different than the 2 weeks he has this year.

Was more just trying to downplay their 10-0 record in one of the weakest conferences in CFB and that the 2 "marquee" wins he has over teams with mostly upper level MAC talent (save a few players).

NW and ILL wins still impressive for WMU, but doesn't indicate that fleck would be a consistently winning P5 coach until he does it

I agree, but I feel like you're moving the goal posts from your initial stance. I think you can look to the ranks of his recruiting classes and get a better picture of how his team should be viewed. I also think it's fair to say that recruiting would be easier and improve if he went to a P5 school.

I'm not advocating for him in any way, but I think he deserves quite a bit of credit for what he's done in spite of being in being in one of the weakest conferences in CFB. Also only one way to find out if he'll succeed.

"Ideally would like to have it done before the season ends and competition escalates"

Top speculated names include Miles, Fleck, Brohm, Pelini, Oklahoma OC Lincoln Riley, Schiano, NDSU's Chris Klieman, Montana's Bob Stitt.

I live in Austin. Charlie Strong never had a chance. He lost in the court of public opinion before ever coaching a game.

You can pencil that one in now.

I think we will see a shake up on our staff, any chance Lovie places a call to get him on staff? I still feel like the guy knows what he is doing and this could give him a chance to sharpen his teeth again.

I would imagine he's a head coach again before he takes a DC job, not that we even have one open.

But we should definitely look at his staff for potential ace Texas recruiters.

There's a chance that an ace Texas recruiter might not even be on his staff. People in Texas are connected to UT in a cult-like way. It's kind of uncomfortable really. It's kind of an unnecessary recruiting specialization. What he did have was some studs he brought in from Florida. We might want to look at whoever that Florida guy was.

Brian Jean-Mary might disagree. Here's our guy.

Ligashesky, McGarigle and Paul Williams strike me as the three spots most likely to turn over.

Is the grand reunion with Tim Brewster possible as an AHC/TE/ST Coach? That would be your dream scenario.

There is money there to get quality guys.

I think we're talking about two different things. You're talking about an overall top notch recruiter. I thought you were talking about a guy on their staff who only focuses on recruiting Texas, for which my argument was they probably don't need that. Makes more sense now.

Yeah, unless Herman decides that LSU is a better fit for him.

The conspiracy theorist in me wonders how easy the move from Houston to Texas would be if Houston were on its way to membership in the Big 12. Obviously Texas is still the bigger job, but in conference moves are tricky.

I don't think the move from a tiny private school to the school with the biggest athletic endowment in the country is as difficult a decision as you make it seem.

IIRC UH is a public school. But your central point remains valid.
