LSU and Houston coach Tom Herman are coming close to a deal which could be announced as early as Saturday.
Would Terry Hawthorne be to raw for a job as D-back coach if it would open up here? Might be able to do some heavy lifting in the STL area.
Well I guess if they can't get their man they wait another year?
Terry Hawthorne is someone that the staff is really creating a relationship with and they are on a full court press in the St. Louis metro area. I don't believe Hawthorne would immediately brought on as an on field assistant, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him in a football/recruiting ops role this offseason. The trend in college football (led by Harbaugh) is to bring in high school coaches from strategic areas of the country in administrative roles. They handle a lot of the recruiting in season allowing coaches to focus on the task at hand. They also already have solid relationships with the players and coaches in the area. This has worked out extremely well for the likes of Alabama, Michigan, amongst others. Lovie has talked extensively about continuing to broaden their staff and this is how he will do it IMO.
And now Coach O is indeed your next LSU coach

This is not etched in stone, but I'm hearing that PJ Fleck will soon be named as Purdue's next football coach.
@McMurphyESPN
Texas will hire Tom Herman & announcement expected today @CFBHeather reports
I weirdly got some sources very close to Fleck and I'll just say this isn't true. Purdue wants their search to be done by Monday and he refuses to talk to them until after the MAC championship.
I could see Fleck being interested in Purdue but not with an immediate hire, I'm sure he thinks he can do better and wouldn't want to rush into it but still be intrigued by a Big Ten ticket.
When should we start hearing about staff shakeups, on the bus to Champaign or shortly after arrival?
