Chicago Bears 2016-2017 Season

That really was a pathetic performance coming off a bye week. Also Jeffrey now suspended four games for PEDs. Not that it really matters a heck of a lot. This really looks like a massive train wreck with no foreseeable solutions in the short-term. Media starting to be more contentious with Fox.

Did Fox commit 4 turnovers or injure 2 of our starting linemen? I thought our defense was playing pretty well yesterday, but the turnovers and bad field position caught up with them.

It is still early but so far I am seeing that Pace's draft picks are much more hit than miss. And that is the solution. Unfortunately, injuries really suck.

Exactly. Our defense has been surprisingly good. Theres not much Cutler is going to be able to do behind this line now. Not against good defenses that can get pressure.

This season is turning into a real s$@tshow. Another game lost after leading at halftime. Players dropping like flies due to injuries. Another player suspended for PEDs. Now Cutler hurt again. GM is nowhere to be found for comment. What a horribly run franchise. Until ownership changes, I doubt we can expect much better than what we are getting on the field.

There is nothing for the GM to say. We are in the middle of a rebuild and have been destroyed by injuries. Do you really expect to see winning football?

I would recommend either watching young guys and look for bright spots in their game (if we even have any healthy youngsters left) or just don't watch Bears games this year.

Not above .500 football but certainly better than 2-8. Injuries are a fact of life in the NFL. I think it's legitimate to question the culture being installed by the new regime when you have lost three games you led at half and have important starters suspended in back to back weeks for PEDs. If you think Fox and Pace thought they would perform this badly you're crazy. It's pretty obvious you don't hold the franchise to any type of standard.

I am holding them to a standard. Be bad enough to get a top 5 draft pick.:D

Seriously though, Pace knew this team was going to be bad when he decided to let go of Forte, Bennett, and Gould. I'm not going to lose any sleep over going 3-14 instead of 5-12. I'm honestly pretty happy that we are looking competitive for 3+ quarters in most games. Rebuilds suck.

Man! You're the fourth, fifth, or sixth receiving option on a bad Bears team! There are guys on practice squads and working out at home that would be perfectly happy to be catching those balls.

I'm not worried at all about the drops. We should not be trying to win games. Maybe he dropped it on purpose so we wouldn't win? They have to know that they should be playing for a top pick? Not trying to win out and get some middling pick or worse that won't make an impact.

I don't believe NFL teams tank it to get a higher draft pick. I do think players will quit on coaches in some cases or lose interest in a season when the losses mount up. The Bears don't have to tank anyway as they seem to be barely able to scrape up enough players every week to fill out the roster. You really can't question the effort the last two weeks. One thing that is discouraging to see is that Pace's plan to completely rebuild the linebacker corps through free agency (McPhee, Travathan, Freeman) is falling apart. McPhee has hardly played for two seasons because of injury and is ineffective when he does play. Travathan and Freeman have played well when on the field but have lost a lot of time to injury and suspension. Travathan is probably gone for the season now. Goldman is also looking like a guy that can't stay on the field either.

I was commenting less on the Bears, and more on the guys dropping the balls who were only getting the opportunity to do so by virtue of injuries to White, Royal and Miller and Jeffrey's suspension.

That's on film forever, and will certainly be something they'll be thinking about this time next year when they're selling insurance or whatever.

Well the upside to Trevathan and Freeman being out is that we get to see what Kwiatkoski can offer. He looked good today. The Niners didn't really test him in coverage but he looked good at stopping the run.

This organization is so screwed up we will probably win out now with Barkley so we will not need draft a real quarterback.

I agree that the Bears need to draft a QB, but I hope they take the best player available (especially in the 1st round). I don't think there is a QB in this class that is worth taking in the top 5.

I know it is really early to be saying tihs, but right now there are so many depth issues on this team that I would like to see a trade down of their top pick for multiple picks in the first couple of rounds. Let's build some depth. Otherwise we might end up with a really good "best available" player and nobody else to play with him. Don't worry, we will be bad enough again next year to earn a top five pick.

It would depend on the deal for me. If they could fall back three or so picks, say from 3 to 6, and pick up a late 1st or early 2nd, I'd be all for it.

But that lack of depth does mean they absolutely should NOT reach for need picks. Don't reach for a qb with your first pick if, for example, you've got available linemen, receivers, d backs or whatever rated ahead of him. Take the best guy and then get your qb later in the draft. The right third or fourth round qb can do great things if he's got the team around him to do it.

Agreed...look at Prescott right now. A QB's job can be easy if you load up the talent around him. Peyton was terrible last season, but the rest of the Broncos were so good that they still won the super bowl. OTOH, look at Aaron Rodgers. IMO he is the best QB in the league right now but how many super bowls has he won? Not enough talent around him (well they have talent but injuries kill them).
