Never need a reason to root against the Packers, but a loss for them tomorrow night makes the Raiders a two win team. Doesn’t seem like Bears will be quite as bad as it appeared a few weeks ago so need some of the other cellar dwellers — other than Carolina — to win some games.
Sure they will have a decent shot to beat the Bears in two weeks.

Bears could potentially be catching a break this weekend with Justin Jefferson's hamstring injury and O'Connell saying they don't want him back until he's 100%.

In the aftermath of the Commanders game, some of the talking heads in Chicago sports radio were talking about what the Bears could do in their next 5 games (home vs. Vikings and Raiders, at Chargers and Saints, and home vs. the Panthers). Sounded like they thought 3-2 could be a possibility in the next 5 with how that broke down.

As a long time Bears fan, I am really torn about this season. Obviously I want success for the team, but I’ve not seen much to suggest that will happen this year nor that the current team and coaches can lay a foundation for future success. That leaves me with the dilemma of “rooting” against my Bears.

What I would like to see happen is that Fields continues to show real improvement to the point it seems obvious (likely?) that he is the answer at QB. In addition we see some players develop and step up to the point that they are solid+ building blocks for the future. But as a team I don’t want to see them play themselves out of an early pick in next draft. Based on last year’s standings, 5 wins would give the Bears about the fifth or sixth pick. If Carolina’s pick ends up being first or second like we hope and Fields is truly our QB answer, trading that pick should bring a nice haul that can help continue the build. And with only 5 wins we might get lucky and see them move on from Eberflus as I’m not sold on him. Unfortunately, I’m not sold on Poles being the right guy to be the architect of the Bears success. But at least he’d have the materials to make it happen.

I'm going to see how the rest of the season goes...

Herbert, Roschon, and Travis Homer all ruled out for Sunday vs. the Vikings. Herbert and St. Brown have been placed on IR, which means they can't return until the Week 10 Thursday night game vs. Carolina.

Eddie Jackson is currently listed as questionable. Jaylon Johnson is good to go and there's a chance that Kyler Gordon comes off of IR for this game.

I'll see if I can sum up your Bears feelings. 1)You want the earliest pick possible. 2) When you are watching you are rooting for them every down. 3) You want huge success for every player.

You know that all of these things can't happen, but that's where you find yourself.
I could be wrong about you, but that is where I have found myself. Crazy place to be.

I believe that the Bears have had 7 years in the last 25 years where they have finished with a record of above .500.
This is the reality of being a Bears fan
But hope springs eternal.

This almost sounds like the White Sox.

Some of the most hurting people in this World in the last decades are fans that like both the Bears and the Sox.

What might happen with the Bears is that they rise to mid-level mediocrity - the worst place you can be in the NFL. Not good enough to be a real contender, but just good enough to miss out on the best players in the draft. The dreaded .500-level ball club.

As much as I know there were issues with Lovie, it will forever be wild to me that he was fired after going 10-6 on the season.
His time has clearly passed, but I liked Lovie as the bears coach. Imagine if they would have had an actual quarterback during those years. But at least they were fun to watch. I’ve all but given up on them after the last 10 years.

Same. He seemed much better suited to that early 2000s NFL and I wonder what kind of position we'd have been in if he'd been kept a few more years.

Although the popular narrative has become "how could smith be fired after going 10-6," reality is he was fired for missing the playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons. Smith's Bears teams made the playoffs only three times in his nine seasons in Chicago.

They have quite a distance to travel before they reach mediocrity.

To further the fun of revisiting Bears recent history, here are the coaches over the last thirty years and the teams point differential during their tenure:

Wannstache: -250
Jauron: -234
Smith: 251 (with a +98 in his final year)
Trestman: -156
Fox: -238
Nagy: 26
Eberflus: -179

The Bears stink and we are all cursed to call them ours.
