No more Peralta please. Now a Baez error and Mets are up 4-3. Lackey probably ready to explode.

It would be nice if I didn't fully expect the 184 million dollar free agent signing to ground out every at bat. I know he doesn't make his money at the plate but come on one time!

He hasn't looked good, but I'd bet he knew going in that the leash was short. Gotta see what they have in these flyer types. They did it last year with Rodney, Cahill, Richard, etc... Some work, some don't. I'd expect to see it with Matsuz when he gets the call.

Fingers crossed they can break Familia's save streak. Up to Willson, bases loaded, 1 out.

Brutal loss. Better this happen in June than October.

Terrible looking at bats by Baez and Contreras to end the game with the bases loaded. Both were strike outs with every pitch a fastball at the ankles. I know it looks nasty coming in that fast, but make him throw it over the plate at least once.

I think you can add Bryant to that list, too.

Lots of ups and downs recently. Our starting pitchers have to get back under control early on in a game and we need to capitalize more when we have RISP.

Also, shore up the defense.

Yep. Only on pace for 103 wins now :(

This team has some serious problems. If this is how Arrietta and Hamel are going to pitch the rest of the season then forget it. The offense is terribly inconsistent and beats up on bad pitching but almost always is shut down by decent pitching. There are only so many games against the Reds and Pirates to pad their won-loss record.

Montero looks alright on the mound!

Joking aside, yes, the past two weeks has been a rough stretch. The starting pitching was overdue for a regression, as they were collectively pitching historically well. Combine that with a bullpen implosion and injuries to key players (Schwarber, Fowler, La Stella, Soler, etc...), a rough streak was expected.

Still, though, they are 9 games up in the division (8 with a Cardinals win today). Get through these next 7 games (3 vs. Reds, 1 vs. Atlanta, 3 @ Pirates) and enjoy a much needed All Star break.

I understand the frustration, but I don't believe these problems are as serious as you are making them out to be.

+1 Injuries have hurt. Let's end the first half of the season winning a couple series and take a rest.

This lineup shakeup is sure paying dividends today (playing the Reds doesn't hurt, too).

I'm not giving up Schwarber for anything less than a Sale level pitcher. No chance.

Sucks hearing him have to make comments on him being on the market while rehabbing a serious injury. I know it's a business but the kid hasn't even played a full season yet.

I can't get the homer in Pittsburgh out of my head, and the fact he told Theo he was going to do it is unreal. As a rookie!

Three multi home run games in 51 total games.

I loved champaignchris's comparison to being like Manny Ramirez. (Obviously, he's yet to play a full season, but comparisons are always fun, even to a HoF bat).

And my point isn't that he's untradeable.

It's that if you're trading him, you're getting way more for him than a 31-year old relief pitcher with two years left on his contract. (Miller is a nice pitcher, but if you look at his comparables, he's basically an older version of Sean Marshall c. 2011.)

Miller, Eovaldi and Chapman for Schwarber and a couple mid-level prospects begins to approach the type of return I'd want from the Yankees. But truth is, if the Cubs were to seriously be looking to trade Schwarber, there are a number of teams that I'd see as significantly better fits for a deal, with the Sox and Quintana being at the head of the list.

Yeah, its a good thing the Reds are in town, they should cure all the Cubs ills. Whoops. We can gloss over it all we want, but this team started off 25-6 and is basically a .500 team since (27-26).

Hop ship now and come on back in October.

This is something the old Cubs regime would have never done. Trade a guy who obviously has some defensive deficiencies and really no position while he is still a really hot prospect. You can't deny the kid has a tremendous bat and would be a perfect fit in the AL for years and years. He is perfect for the playoff run but if you can get real value for him, you have to seriously consider it.
