If this goes into long extras, you think the Cubs will be able to shuttle anyone in to help the bullpen tomorrow? ;)

Also: You heard it here first, Anthony Rizzo, 2016 NL MVP.

I was fully aware going into this season that Jason wasn't getting 185 million to be a slugger but to have absolutely 0 doubts that he wasn't getting a hit in that situation is something I can't explain.

U-G-L-Y with the bat...

I'm just bummed out by this whole thing.

For so many reasons.

I certainly don't consider myself one of the prospect-hoarders, but even though Torres was blocked you'd have to figure he would have been a critical piece in getting some cost-controlled starting pitching, which is the thing that can take this from a 3-ish year competitive window to more like a decade-long one. Hell, Adam Warren could've been a part of the solution on that front - I certainly hadn't written him off.

And then Chapman himself - what does it say that I was glad to hear the Cubs didn't talk extension, because I want to minimize the amount of time I have to watch and, by extension, quasi-cheer for, a garbage human?

Be 100% honest - if the Cubs win the World Series and Aroldis Chapman is on the mound to close it out, how much less do you enjoy it? It's a nonzero number, right? I didn't think it would be possible to take the shine off of that moment, but this would do it.

Why is Chapman a "garbage human"?

A .220 average with a .320 slugging % after 100 games will do that to you.

Because he abused the mother of his children.
You mean because she started it? She read a text on his phone that she didn't like and she went after him. There is evidence available that refutes some myths surrounding this incident.

You still don't put your hands around her neck, and then fire 8 rounds against your garage wall.....

Thank you!! I can't believe people are trying to justify his actions.

I'll find it very difficult to actively cheer for him. I'll be happy with any wins he contributes to, but not for him as a person. I hope he is taking the necessary therapeutic steps to improve himself.

I'd love to go along with the whole narrative of him being a really terrible person, but I have no idea how he needed to defend himself from the attacking woman. There doesn't appear to be evidence of actual choking either, according to the reports. One incident of a woman going berzerk over a text and starting the confrontation doesn't make the male a "garbage human". It makes him human and suspended from the MLB for 30 games.

I'm sorry, but I can't go along with the whole narrative of minimizing his actions as you appear to be doing. From everything I read, his actions do not justify whatever it was that "she started," as you put it. He lost control, he became enraged, he put the fear of god into her (and their child). That makes him a bad person.

It is my hope that he is working toward making positive personal changes and amends, but I won't give him the leniency you are.

Sybok conveniently glosses over the not-at-all disputed fact that he filled his garage with bullet holes to intimidate his girlfriend while his child was in the house. That in and of itself is abuse by any sane definition, whether or not you believe the allegations that he choked her (which I'm inclined to do, given the above insane action I just described!).

People have to remember that some of these guys are great ball players, but not great human beings. All they see is what they can do on a ball field, and can justify them off field actions cause of that, sadly.

I'm not going to justify his actions. But this is business. He's here to help win, not be a good person. Let's be honest, we win the series and he closes it out it won't take any meaning away for me or most fans. That's he crown jewel of the sports world right now. Winning he World Series with the Cubs. If winning with him disgusts you I would say get off your little moral high horse and support him as a player, not a person. That's what we are supposed to do as fans of a TEAM. Not fans of someone's personal life.

He could be someone like a Ray Rice where this first instance of domestic abuse; however, it's been rumored that this is not. For instance, there was a hotel incident when he was with the Reds. Also, why take 30 games if he did nothing wrong? Why not fight tooth-and-nail like Tom Brady in his bs case? Is it cause if he did appeal more info would have been released and not look good for him? I'm think that's the case.

It's absolutely a business, and Chapman is without a doubt an incredible baseball player. But I'd rather cheer for a good person than one that did what he did. So no, I won't get off my "little moral high horse." I can and will support the team, but not the individual player.

I don't understand people saying "It's a business" as if reputation and culture are not incredibly important parts of what allows businesses to earn and build loyalty and trust, and in some cases determine who succeeds and who fails.

I guess I will happily sit on a "little moral high horse" of people that find domestic abusers to be repellent. Brave of you to go in the opposite direction, I guess.

Serious question - are some of you the people who questioned the cardinals honoring Oscar?

I don't disagree with you guys. I totally understand. I'm just choosing to put his personal decisions in the back of my mind and forget about it and just focus on the player. I hope it works out.

I totally get it. If my team hadn't won in forever, I'd be the same way. Hell, I'm that way about Illinois athletics. I get it.

I don't know if I literally did it on this board, but yes.

To preface this, I know you said you cannot root Chapman because of the person he is. My point is for all the fans justifying this, but ripping Cardinal fans for supporting Oscar. You're in the same boat as those cardinal fans now. You can't have both ways
