Jack Ingram was true student athlete. As a Univ ILL BSEE and MSEE I am proud of our school. I think MIT and Stanford might argue with you about #1 ranked.

Jack is also a great guy (I have played golf with him) and is a very successful engineering manager these days. He is also a very proud Illini, sporting the colors frequently.

I will never forgot the cool pizza delivery guy I crossed paths with in 2003 that was in EE classes with Ingram and said "that dude is a smart motherf$#!er!"

i was also in EE but don't remember ever crossing paths with ingram.

And this isn't Ed Cooley leaving for arguably at lateral move, IL is a more desirable coaching stop than Neb without question.
you guys are talking about a hypothetical that ISNT GOING TO HAPPEN
Brad is not leaving anytime soon.

and imo. neither is Fred

Fran’s a Philly guy, so I’d imagine any sort of decent job close to Philly would be in play for him. Im guessing Iowa wouldn’t be too upset to see him move on without a huge fuss. As mentioned earlier, Iowa has three major sport coaches earlier 60s or older. They have to look at succession planning. As we learned in the Mike Thomas era, it’s not easy to change those coaches all at once.

Yes ... Brad is on the "special list" of 3 that the donors would donate a ton for ...

Do I think he leaves ? No ...

Brad is gonna go win this dang ball game tomorrow ... Hang an f'ing banner in the rafters ... And Josh is gonna get him another extension that allows Brad to retire here and never worry about NIL the rest of his years as Head Coach of the Fighting Illni ...

As for the other two names ... One rhymes with Notes ... And the other is probably the beer that @illini0440 is drinking as we speak ...
Hmmmmm who rhymes with Natty Light?

Yes. But this criticism holds for easily 85-90% of discussions on the recruiting forums over the years.

Put differently, if I had my choice of current B10 coaches at IL:

1-BU
2-Painter
3-Hoiberg
4-Pikiell
5-Collins, maybe Johnson

Fred is more likely to get canned by Nebraska in the next three years than he is to coach Illinois EVER.
I don't know what the appeal is. We can and would do better than taking a coach from Lincoln if/when Brad ever left.

Win a natty and we’ll throw in a statue
For those of you who hate Indiana, when looking at 2018 coaching carousel, I came across this, which made me chuckle:

It’s kind of amazing how much of a crapshoot high-major head coaching hires can be. Even sustained success at a P6 school may mean nothing when you swap in a different fanbase/booster network/AD. I totally get why Louisville would offer Drew close to $10m/year, and I also get why he’d think long and hard and not take the deal at the end of the day.

I think if you are someone like Scott Drew, you have a long checklist of things and every single one of them has to be a “f*** yes” before making a move.

And even then, it may not work out.

A coach I have always loved and he's been at or near the top of my list any time we've needed a coach is Buzz Williams.

He A) seems like a real stand up guy. If anyone remembers the video of him practicing standing for the national anthem. He had veterans come speak to the team about what that song means to them, and pressed his players to think of them and show respect, but more importantly B) he wins everywhere he goes.

Crean had Marquette sitting quite well, but Buzz didn't miss a beat. But then to win at Virginia Tech and Texas A&M, much more impressive. I would love to see what he could do at a big time program.

That said, if Underwood were to leave, I'd be looking at Sean Miller or Chris Beard and just do what it takes to land one of them.
Love Buzz as a coach but can’t see him leaving aTm. He’s a Texas guy, graduated from the aTm system, assisted there. His wife is also from Texas and she is very close with her sister (I coached his nephew, wife’s sister’s son) and they were off to college station regularly when he took that job. Dad is older too.

That said, I think Buzz could kill it here if we pulled him.
