Should Brad leave (certainly hope not), I hope Hoiberg is at the top of Josh's list. Guy can coach and recruit. Very well spoken and classy.
All the pieces to win are at Illinois, so I think it’s as simple as this for us:

If we continue to PAY Brad to stay here like a big time program would, we will KEEP Brad here like a big time program would.

Illini in OC

Nothing wrong at all ... I just think at 72 I won't have much interest in recruiting 24/7 in the NIL/Portal Era and with the expansion of the Big Ten having to travel coast to coast every year ...

Especially with 10 or 20 million in the bank ... Think I would get me a nice beach house with some nice NL to look at and call it a career ... ;)🤷‍♂️
ahh... Beach Houses and NLs... only on Loyalty.

yeah, I don't think Brad's gonna leave.

but if he does, Hoiberg is a Plan A guy, IMO. and that was the entire point of my post

A coach I have always loved and he's been at or near the top of my list any time we've needed a coach is Buzz Williams.

He A) seems like a real stand up guy. If anyone remembers the video of him practicing standing for the national anthem. He had veterans come speak to the team about what that song means to them, and pressed his players to think of them and show respect, but more importantly B) he wins everywhere he goes.

Crean had Marquette sitting quite well, but Buzz didn't miss a beat. But then to win at Virginia Tech and Texas A&M, much more impressive. I would love to see what he could do at a big time program.

That said, if Underwood were to leave, I'd be looking at Sean Miller or Chris Beard and just do what it takes to land one of them.

Yes ... Brad is on the "special list" of 3 that the donors would donate a ton for ...

Do I think he leaves ? No ...

Brad is gonna go win this dang ball game tomorrow ... Hang an f'ing banner in the rafters ... And Josh is gonna get him another extension that allows Brad to retire here and never worry about NIL the rest of his years as Head Coach of the Fighting Illni ...

As for the other two names ... One rhymes with Notes ... And the other is probably the beer that @illini0440 is drinking as we speak ...
Dang it….. gonna take me a while to figure this out.

Interesting. Holtmann to DePaul. He's been a really solid recruiter. True, it's DePaul in the modern basketball era, but recruiting in our backyard could become a problem over an extended period of time

Jack Ingram was true student athlete. As a Univ ILL BSEE and MSEE I am proud of our school. I think MIT and Stanford might argue with you about #1 ranked.

OK, officially ranked 4th at the time in 2004 but the East and West Coast school ranking bias is a very real thing, especially in comparison to flyover state schools. My #1 ranking for BSEE in 2005 came directly from the definitive college ranking source, HAL 9000! As every ILLINI knows, the HAL 9000 computer became operational at the H-A-L labs in Urbana Illinois on the 12th of January 1992 at the very forefront of AI. Take that, Stanford and MIT!
In addition, without question the smartest person I have ever known is a U of I BSEE who I first met in Scott Hall in 1977.
So I stand by my 2005 ranking for BSEE at the time Jack Ingram was in the program!

Kelsey is a good friend of mine ... But I think I'm going Fran ... And I don't even like Fran ...

I just think Fran would have Michigan relevant without a doubt ...
Would Fran still recruit the crap out of Illinois and the Quad City area? Fran's squads at Iowa have been heavily vanilla flavored...would that change at Michigan? Maybe that's just an Iowa thing.😎

could be. but many thought Gates would be an emerging big problem too. so, we'll see

that said, real good hire by DePaul. Holtmann has a deep hole to get out of

I will never forgot the cool pizza delivery guy I crossed paths with in 2003 that was in EE classes with Ingram and said "that dude is a smart motherf$#!er!"

I’m a HUGE fan of his, so agreed there … but I do have concerns about poaching in-conference. Seems to be an unwritten rule in the Big Ten. However, in a “Power Two” world, that might have totally changed.

I've heard Brad's posture is only 95% effort when he stands for the flag...

I say eff historical precedent. If the guy at the top of the list coaches for a conference school*, I really hope that wouldn't stop Josh.

Why would Michigan want Fran McCaffery? He's been in the conference for 14 seasons, and the best he has ever finished was 3rd. Never made a Sweet 16. One tournament championship is really all he has to show for his time in Iowa City. Never been a great recruiter. He is decidedly ok as a coach.

I could see Fran wanting deeper pockets and more opportunity to win, but not sure why Michigan would share those thoughts. Coming from thinking you're going to get Nate Oats to getting Fran McCaffery is an awfully big drop off. If I'm rich donor X, unless Fran is a personal friend, he is not in my top 3.

Fran meets the Michigan job description for slapping extension required of its coaches.

Head coach Fran McCaffery of the Iowa Hawkeyes yells during the second half against the Minnesota Gophers on January 30, 2018 at Carver-Hawkeye...

I’ve always been a big fan of Hoiberg. I think his advantage in this new transfer age in basketball is he was doing quite a bit of that at Iowa State. He found the pieces he needed in the transfer portal and was able to maintain continuity with the program.

And this isn't Ed Cooley leaving for arguably at lateral move, IL is a more desirable coaching stop than Neb without question.
