Do they not think those changes to staff could help them fill out the roster?Changes to the staff will be made. Brad/OA/Geoff are focused on filling out the roster first.
Seems a backwards approach.

Bad phrasing. First of all, not all readers are going to take an insiders info the same way. I can tell easily that you take their statements way differently than I do. I don't think anyone is being misled in an intentional way. Feeling misled is 100% dependent upon how much importance the reader chooses to apply to them. Today's possibilities are different from yesterdays, and tomorrows will be different than todays. Things change, sometimes slowly, often quickly. All Illini fans should know this, lol.
Ok, maybe that was what I had heard.Part of the reason C Fraz was upset and ultimately left was because Brad wouldn’t let him run the defense …
And I'm going to throw this out there.. 0 chance Frazier would've been worse than HamerPart of the reason C Fraz was upset and ultimately left was because Brad wouldn’t let him run the defense …

Pot ... meet kettle, LOL.My issues are less with the honest discussions about what needs to be changed defensively — something obviously needs to be done there — and more so about the sophomoric sniping and juvenile name calling. It reeks of Biff Tannen surrounded by his group of sycophantic yes men lackeys.
I seriously doubt most people here would even know what Hamer’s role on the staff would be without one very vocal, and very influential person’s opinion of him. And I respect that person’s take. He’s connected and has a level of insight that most of us don’t. It’s the rest of you who just accept it at face value and pile on as if his thoughts are yours.
As for the leggings? Come on… that’s middle school girls level of sniping. And I suspect most if you who are piling in that ridiculous train are hardly fine fashion specimens yourself — probably wearing the same worn out hoodie for the fifth day in a row and undersized jeans exposing a massive beer gut. Reeks of jealousy, if you ask me.
That's one aspect of recruiting. They come to Illinois because of HC.
Did you ever stop to think that maybe that's what the GA's are for? Preliminary screening before bringing someone to coaching staff for further evaluation. Full assistants aren't doing that until things get farther down the lineThat's one aspect of recruiting.
Another aspect involves digging into the detailed background of potential recruits. Done well, that takes a lot of time. Assistant coaches can and should help with that work. If not, miss-evaluations may occur.

I don’t think you understand what that saying means.Pot ... meet kettle, LOL.
Nah, thinking is too much work.Did you ever stop to think that maybe that's what the GA's are for? Preliminary screening before bringing someone to coaching staff for further evaluation. Full assistants aren't doing that until things get farther down the line
that has never been the case with basketball. Yes you have to have faith in the head coach, but assistants have always brought in recruits. Look no further than Hansberry and Harris leaving as soon as Frazier left. They come to Illinois because of HC.
Assistants have the connections, but in the long run, they play for a BU, Cal, Pitino, Oats, Self, Scheyer, Mr Furley, Sampson, etc. The HC closes the deal with said player. Not an assistant.
When my son was recruited for baseball, his main connection had to be the HC.

That's good to hear. Stubborn or not Brad would have to be a complete fool to retain Hamer in his current position. This discussion isn't new. There was plenty of talk last year about available defensive assistant coach upgrades.Changes to the staff will be made. Brad/OA/Geoff are focused on filling out the roster first.
Did anyone know our assistant coaches? Huh? Pretty insulting question if you ask me. There are freaking 5 assistant coaches. We’re not talking about the assistant athletic trainer for volleyball here. Maybe you have trouble keeping up with 5 ACs for MBB, but I assure you plenty on here don’t.I ask you this because I'm genuinely inquisitive. I actually ask this of the whole board. Did you even know who Hamer was before the insiders (one in particular) consistently went after him during the season?
I think that the vast majority of people never knew the guy existed, but because the season was a bumpy ride, he's the whipping boy. Well, Ben too, but this is about Hamer.
Did you, or anyone else that wants to answer, know this dude even existed?
Rabid, your initial longer post was very well written. Agree with the sentiments and don't want to detract from that. But by your own words, you saw him as a convenient target of Brad’s ire, not necessarily deserving of it. Has your current opinion of him been formed by independent research and fact gathering or by the mob mentality of this board’s echo chamber?
Fair point. I still think Chet brought in guys to be “EDG”, to fit in with BU’s mantra. BU initially loved them. But then BU saw their limitations especially with Sencire. And therefore started to recruit over them. I don’t know, all I can tell is my son’s experience.that has never been the case with basketball. I pretty sure players came for OA. Maybe he is the exception. Also looks to me like some players came for TA and Chester. They come to Illinois because of HC.
