To each their own, but I would greatly prefer Seattle, WA to Cheney, WA any day of the week.

I imagine the Seattle U. gig is a nice landing spot. Could be a job worth settling into for the long haul.

Can't find how much of a pay increase Hayford gets. Meanwhile, Eastern Washington quickly named its associate head coach Shantay Legans to replace Hayford.

Reminds me of when Ralph Miller left a successful head coaching gig at Iowa for Oregon State. When asked why, his answer was simple: he preferred living in Corvallis instead of Iowa City.

Yeah, if I was looking for a non-P5 job, the positions in interesting markets would be at the top of the list. Put me near mountains, an ocean, in a major city, etc.

Now everyone has their priorities in terms of location (near family, small town, large city, mountains, ocean, etc.), but I would think jobs like Seattle U., San Francisco U., Long Beach, Manhattan, Denver U. would do well within their conferences at attracting above average coaches and talent.

After their fan forum trash-talked our program during the coaching search, I'd be perfectly fine seeing that. Let them learn their place in the pecking order.

Similarities between where we were 5 years ago, and where GTown is now are striking. Great history, but just fired a coach that had success and then trailed off. They're finding out that history and how good your job is are not the same.

Well so far, they are looking eerily similar to another program not too long ago...:chief:, maybe Ewing can let them know that he isn't interested either. When Providence coach is backing away...C'mon, Providence over G-Town? There used to be a day when that was unheard of...now?

I really can't stress enough how much of an issue John Thompson II is on that Georgetown job. His shadow has been over that program for over 40 years. Every coach knows that they're going to have to deal with Big John if they take the job.

Providence with complete autonomy sounds better than having to deal with that situation.

The use of JT II is the ONLY thing that makes sense......that is a LARGE shadow however

Ok! That's if you think ESPN guys know what they are talking about & I don't. His team is about right where most people had them before the season. However, I certainly don't think Hoiberg is cut out for the NBA.
He's about as cut out as Phil Jackson is to be a GM. Or, maybe as cut out as GarPax are.
But Hoiberg was very successful at the college game. There are a lot of college coaches have went to the league & pretty much flamed out, &, yes there are some who have been successful. It takes a special guy to be able to massage the egos in the NBA.

After this season ('16-'17) Muller is looking to get out of a 1-bid league just like Marshall.

Marshall may do it by moving his team to a new conference. Muller won't be able to do that.

Love the guy, but that sort of assistant role would be a more suitable fit for his skillset than a HC job (unless he wants to learn from the mistakes, of course).

Wouldn't be a long term thing - Groce would be looking for a head coach position in 1-3 years at a solid mid-major. In the meantime, he'd be a real pain to have to recruit against.

Not awkward. Awful. We do not want to be in a position to have to recruit against Groce/Archie to Indiana.

And word on the street is Smih really liked Groce. Players go to schools for assistants all the time.

Doesn't sound like this will materialize in time to matter on Smith.

I'd rather it not end up that way, but far from awful. It's weirdly rare how often we're competing against IU on guys, anyway.

Not just word on the street. Our 4 commits and Smith really wanted to play for Groce. Having him recruiting for Indiana is not going to be ideal.
And in regards to OldGreg's post -- I'm curious as to what bridges Groce burned in Illinois.
