HELLO! It's the same damned rule that you want to nuke Michigan for. SAME DAMNED THING!
I am not trying to play dumb on this. I am trying to understand the logic. There is a rule that specifically bans in person scouting. So if a team has an assistant on the sidelines that would be a violation. If you pay someone to attend games to record the sidelines of an opponent you will play that year you are scouting and violating the rules.

How are coaches talking about a common opponent the same thing as advance scouting? I agree you may not like it and think there should be a rule to prevent it. But the other school is not scouting, providing videos from the sidelines or other info that is specifically banned in bylaws. I understand scUM wants people to believe it is the same but I don’t see a way to connect the dots to that conclusion

11.6.1 Off-Campus, In-Person Scouting Prohibition. Off-campus, in-person scouting of future opponents (in the same season) is prohibited, except as provided in Bylaws 11.6.1.1 and 11.6.1.2.

You’re incredible. If they did they would have already played this card at least informally to the Big Ten. Good news for Illinois football fans - a talent depleted and possibly Harbaugh less scUM team will come to town 2024 to play the 100th anniversary game.
Michigan will lose a lot next year, on top of any penalties. I'm looking forward to the game.

ties will be resolved
Word on the street is Michigan has info on nine other Big Ten teams that sent people to other teams' games.

If this pans out -- admittedly a big "if" -- this could be checkmate.

Or it could be a bluff. You sure you want to call it?

(Forward about 6:00 to get to the scary stuff)

sounds like whataboutism. if Michigan has evidence, bring it. FWLIW, am not holding my breath

they likely worked that out with scUM first and they agreed to accept and not fight it . we will see if/when they respond

I was hoping for a 4-5 game suspension, but realized likely not

edit: just read scUM is expected to fight it so he can coach tomorrow. ugh

Watch the sidelines very carefully for some odd-looking fella you've never seen before.

that's some seriously weak sauce. Pettiti screwed up, IMO
I disagree. He was limited in what he could do. The NCAA investigation is not over and this is not the complete punishment. The NCAA should be able do things faster

So Jim H should have been suspended half of this year. I bet he wins coach of the year think what he could have done if he was on the sidelines all year

Everybody and their mother knows it’s 90% done deal Harbaugh is going to the bears/nfl next year…..so how bad do you want to puss off the other brass at Michigan and push the to maybe talk to other conferences? Also I’m not defending Harbaugh cause he is a di** but head coaches are really good at keeping one degree if separation and a lot of times even two. So while yes Harbaugh knew they had other teams signals I’m sure he didn’t really know the extent at which Stallions was getting them….and yes he didn’t want to know. Keep him in the dark plausible deniability. Also Navy_illini is right his hands are kind of tied while the NCAA investigates

If you believe their official legal rationale, the conference could have suspended Jim Harbaugh for the full period, kept him away from the practice facility, banned him from all team activities. As it is Harbaugh will still be working with the team on gameplans and practice sessions. He'll still be working with JJ McCarthy on reads and technique. If you wanted Jim Harbaugh punished -- and there are a lot of folks who really wanted him punished -- this is the equivalent of skim milk.

If I was Michigan, I'd file for a re class of the earlier 3 game suspension to see if it could count for both infractions.../s

I'm betting that Pettiti didn't have many choices due to the heavy pressure from the other B1G member institutions... Side note: I think it was the B1G that gave us the penalties in the slush-fund scandal back in the 60's, and NOT the NCAA
It was also the B10 that penalized us in the Dave Wilson fiasco.

It was never going to be anything other than this. B1G has no Onions and neither does the NCAA. Now let Minnesota or Texas Tech get caught doing this and there will be Hell to pay.
