Probably needs to put on some weight and improve outside shot.
Thanks all for the info. I can tell he needs to hit the weight room as soon as he is at UI. Nice he is a slasher but we will probably have 3-4 slashers in front of him next year. Is he a good defender?

He certainly has the mentality to be a good defender.

Isn't that what said about Ayo?

...Not trying to correlate...

Ayo biggest plus that was/is truly superior was work ethic and confidence ....I think Sincere seems to have similar traits/drive. And I think he will surprise in a good way.

I don't hear about Sencire as much as other incoming frosh. Can somebody tell me more about his game?
His body frame and athleticism similiar to Luther. I think he is further along with bball skills, especially dribbling and shooting at same stage.

Luther would've been an absolute stud his freshman year had it not been for a groin injury. He would've been the missing piece off the bench for that '02 team and the reason I wasn't too disappointed by the '03 team. You just knew by his game that he'd be special once he got healthy.

That said, if Sencire is further along than Luther, he'll be starting next year.

I remember that. He was hampered his first year. Harris could be the steal of this class. I hope he get playing time as we will be very deep but young.

Read both of my posts. I said if Sencire is further along than Luther was as a frosh (he started a dozen or so games for a top ten team), then yes, he'll start. I haven't seen him play. But if he's further along than Luther, then yes.

I remember Luther as a very poor ball handler his freshman year. His change from freshman to senior was one of the greatest I can remember. Of course my memory isn't what it used to be.

I was excited when we recruited Luther, talent and potential were obvious. I wouldn't call him a "very poor" ball handler as a freshman.
He was unpolished and a little rough around the edges. but I agree that he significantly improved as an Illini. I remember that Luther
was rated by one of the services as number 75 in their set-up. He was never thought of as a point guard, but at 6'3" he was considered
a solid 2 guard.

Luther seemed to be an afterthought as a recruit. If I remember correctly we hadn't really thought of him and self arrives and grabs him out of nowhere. I remember wondering if he wasn't just a roster filler.

Sencire has great handles, crossovers, behind the back dribbles, uses his arm length well, needs to use his left hand to finish drives although he places the ball well, and has a smooth shot. What I like about him is his killer mentality. Probably not one game where he didn't just stare down his opponent, talk emotionless at his opponent, and had not back down. He will excite fans.

IMO Kofi returning is key to our success next year. We have a great recruiting class, but without Kofi (or a home run transfer) we may struggle inside. Also need that senior leadership since it will be a very young team. If Kofi returns, I think we can still be a top 25 team. Without him, I see us as more of a bubble team and finishing in the mid to lower half of the conference.

Too much in play still to know where we stand at this point.

Does anyone else remember the all star game when Luther threw himself a pass of the backboard a dunked it? I want to say it was Chicago vs New York seniors. I had never seen anything like that in a high school game

And in the nearly two decades since he left, don't forget the dozens of players whose tuition was covered by Luther when we wanted players but were out of scholarships.

Sincere seems to be more wiry than Ayo. I see Sincere as a mix between Luther and Trent as a body type/style of play. He is skinny like Trent was skinny, but has athleticism like Luther.

Sencire is gonna start next year?
No, but after watching him at the Staples Center. against best High School/ Academy bought and paid. He will be a baller! 17 in 2nd half and they couldn't stop him, and he tweaked his ankle. But let's slow our enthusiasm. 🤣

Different states. Different AAU circuits. Different high school coaches. Different positions from high school to college. Different team mates.

Just really hard to figure out how freshmen stack up until they suit up. That's part of the reason for the crazy expectations that often accompany these guys.

I will say that if we don't get an experienced PG in this will be the most pressure on freshmen for that position since 1987.

I have to agree with other posters. It would be awesome to have open practice again and see them balling!
