This is why we are going to be good. Switchable lineups. How are team’s scout teams going to practice 5 or 6 different types of lineups? Ty at the point, TJ at the point, Dain switching with Hawk, Skyy running the point, Harris posting low, Mayer jump shooting, RJ driving and Goode shooting threes? We will throw different looks throughout the game. I believe Rogers will be a beast by the end of the season. I believe Harris will get solid minutes. We will stifle offenses with out length and speed. Overall, the B1G will be weaker but we will be more Competitive.
I would say people are more basing it on Ty being on the 12 man roster for Team USA. Sure Ecuador and DR are not great but the competition to get on the team was. Was the 2005 team lower quality because the B1G was down that year?
I didn't miss 2005, I started my Illini love with the Eddie Johnson and Derek Harper era. My point was that the style of play that I like, fast and furious, swarming D, etc, might allow this team to play like the Flyin Illini team. That team scored 90+ points 13 times! The 2005 team was probably just as good, but different - they topped 90 5 times. I liked the 05 team a lot, but on style of play I prefer the 88-89 team.
Or, heaven forfend, one of them might miss a game or games due to injury.

Honestly if Dain is truly a point center, how many 5 men are gonna full court press him if he’s our primary handler? If you bring a smaller defender, he can body him or see over him and make whatever pass he needs to make. I’m running with this point center thing until I see otherwise in a game. The possibilities with that skill set are insane.
I mean, if you are being serious, if he is actually bringing the ball up more than like once a game, where he grabs a board and takes off, then he most definitely will have a smaller defender run at him and probably cause a turnover.
I’d argue that defender would be getting back in transition defense.
I can tell you from experience that being an ME and an attorney is like mixing oil and water. For an ME there is just one answer to every problem. To be a lawyer, you have to get rid of that idea that there is a correct answer, and realize that there are only arguments about why your answer (the one you are being paid to come up with) is better than the other guy's answer.I'm glad that we know that you are an M.E., as the number of likes on a message board is pretty flimsy evidence for anything.* I"m glad to know you're not an attorney.

It me.Someone mentioned Ty filling the DMFW void in their heart. I am in full support of that because that hole is gaping.
As for CoHawk, the dude is going to be just fine. If he is “worse” than Ty then we are going to be really really good.
It’s my dream we put teams through 40 minutes of hell with full court pressure and in your face defense. We have the athletes now to out run anyone and create havoc everywhere.
Yeah, yeah but Underwood’s first couple seasons! Go look at those rosters and now look at this one.
We are going to be good. Maybe not B1G champs good, but second weekend of the NCAA Tournament good.
That's not what I am referring to. I am saying that it is possible that he brings the ball up maybe once a game off a rebound, to get out in transition, but there is no way he is a "point-center." The opposing coach would send a guy at him, and it'd likely cause a turnover. That's just my opinion.
Dainja is 6’9”. I don’t recall a lot of turnovers from sending smaller defenders at this 6’9” guy.

I have a similar take. The 2005 team would've made John Wooden proud - that was BEAUTIFUL basketball... Basketball played at an extremely high level. A significant highlight of that year was the 15-pass set vs NW where we repeatedly passed up good looks for better looks.
The Flyin' Illini were a whole new thing. No one had ever seen a bunch of interchangeable 6'5"+ guys who could run, jump and defend like that. This is why DickieV always talks about them.
I was in awe of the 2021 Baylor team. So athletic. So fast. So strong. So tough. The 2005 team may or may not have beaten said Baylor squad, but they did not look anything like them. The 88-89 team is much closer.
I think this year's Illini will have a lot of similarities to that Baylor team. With Kofi gone, I think BU's teams will generally look like this going forward.

Um, where has all the talk of 7 foot Goode gone? I mean, he could play center, even though I know everyone has him locked down at the 2 because of his elite athleticism. Also, where is the talk on Lieb as an all American? Show some love people, Lieb kool aid for everyone? Also, when our entire team goes to the NBA after week 6, don't sleep on the intramural team that we will use to win the big 10. There, that should end any silly talk until the next person says something because they day drink and you can't watch corn all day. Can you smell me, because I am the . At 5' 11" and 245 pounds, my growth plates are still open, although crudely becoming a perfect sphere was not the boy type I was shooting for.

The 2005 team DID make John Wooden proud. He said as much after we pummeled Gonzaga in the Wooden classic.

It seems that way. I'm just wondering if all our guys go pro after week six, could they award us the National Title because we were so dominant over those six weeks? And maybe they'll expand the All-American teams, so all our 11 scholarship players can be on the first team.
