A little story to pass along from last night. Was sitting at a pub in Springfield last night enjoying a nice dinner and cold malt liquor.. watching the Bama game and got into a discussion with the gentleman next to me. Come to find out he was the football coach at Pleasant Plains. For those of you who don’t know anything about PP, it is a small suburb of Springfield that has never had a football player worth a lick to sniff D1.. unfortunately earlier this year one of their players had a pretty serious medical issue during a game and is in pretty rough condition. The reason I bring up small community and no recruitable players is that the coach told me that Coach B and a couple other coaches from our staff have reached out more than once to see how the young man was doing and send along their prayers..that is as classy as it gets! Kudos to you Illini football staff!
Respect👏

Well then.
In case you haven't had your....Juice....this morning...

Edit: Also....Hoomanawanui!! Say it 3 times out loud and you will get lei'd tonight!
Props for that, Sky. Never gets old.

I used to have a photo from that game of Rashard Mendenhall breaking a long run down the OSU sideline. It was taken as he passed Jim Tressell. The pained expression of futility on Tressell's face in the background is priceless.

Here's the cover of the OSU student newspaper sports section the following Tuesday (Monday was apparently the Veterans Day holiday observed.)

Sweet, sweet, Buckeye tears.

Great column this morning by the Dean of Illini new media, Jeff Johnson. Absolutely right to label Lunney’s RZ strategy as “sus”. Classic case of overthinking that results in fewer points on the board, which could cost them come Nebraska, Purdue and definitely Michigan.

Also an interesting side note from Mr Johnson regarding the role of Illini Sports Info Dept , and their ineptitude in leading an all out media campaign to promote Chase for Heisman. Of all the things a great SID should do, this is table stakes.

I'm sure that you're right (that you know your own photo!) - but is it possible that it was Daniel Dufrene? IIRC, he broke a 80+(?) yard run early in that game, only to be caught near the goal line.

No, it wasn't the Dufresne one (RIP, gone way too soon.) I have a photo of that, too (below). This one was of Rashard. It was so vivid because it was taken from the end zone looking directly up the sideline. Rashard had already blown by Tressell, but Tressell was still close enough to be completely in focus so you can see in detail the pained expression on his face and Rashard's expression as he motors up the sideline.

It was a beautiful photo. I may still have it deep in the recesses of some forgotten box of old stuff. I'm kicking myself that I apparently didn't scan it or save it digitally.

I was living in Ottawa, Ontario at the time and was alone at a wedding in Calgary, Alberta that weekend. Couldn't see any of the game. The ABC affiliate out of Spokane, WA was showing some BS PAC 12 game so I couldn't even duck into the bar of the venue to catch some of Illinois-OSU.

After the reception I drove back to the friend's house where I was staying. It was around 7 p.m. so 9 p.m. on the east coast and the game was long over. I scanned AM radio until I found an ESPN radio affiliate somewhere south of the border. I still remember exactly where I was on the cloverleaf entrance ramp to the Trans Canada Highway in west Calgary when the ESPN host announced the top sports story of the day. I literally started shouting for joy as I drove.

Awesome story, thanks for sharing.

I actually have a similarly unique Illini-OSU game experience - had just moved to Wiesbaden Germany for a new job and the home loss to OSU (Walter Young out of bounds near TD catch in OT) was the only Illini game I was able to watch that season - 1 college football game per week on my TV (as well as 1 NFL game on Sunday). I have a photo of me and my 6-month old daughter, decked out in our Illini gear getting ready to watch that game. Unfortunately, not the same end of the game elation as you were able to experience.

Please continue with the stories of past games guys........I get such pleasure to read about similar Illini fanatics and the pains taken to watch , listen or at least read about the game results......

My past , years ago in Mcleansboro , Il , was torture listening to the radio feed from Du Quion , Il station and the signal going in and out , with me cussing that I couldn't enjoy the beloved as we all can now........The 1963 year with Grabowski's 3 yards and a cloud of dust , Illini version was so satisfying....Usually I had to read about the game in the St. Louis Post Dispatch paper and imagining the play in my warped and 420 drugged mind ......Good times , but nowadays with the awesome increase's in technology has whetted my appetite for more ascension by the Illini to the top rungs in college FB and a place of where 4-5 * recruits WANT to play .........

I am enjoying this season more than anyone can even imagine , as the weight of all those 63-0 and other disappointments fade away...............

LET'S GO ILLINI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder what adjustments RW HS made to his coaching style and play calling since coming to us. I would think having other former DCs on staff is a huge help for him as well (BB, AB, KK)...

Cannot argue the 2007 OSU game for extended joy, especially when Juice talked Zook out of punting. But there is another special place in my heart for the 1993 game, Johnny Johnson vs. Michigan. First win in Ann Arbor in many years.
