Bollin in HS pre injury- great size and shooting ability.

Did nothing at Duke - maybe still recovering from injury. Hopefully fresh start and another year of recovery means she can play 20 mpg for us helping our size and offense!
was just stating that Bolin played for Duke, and Hobby was at NC State. My feelings toward Duke mirror yours trust me.

Green has a very different coaching challenge this season. She goes from struggling to put five quality, healthy players on the floor to figuring out how to find minutes for everyone and what combinations work well together. She now has some big guards, including McKenzie, who will not be forced to play out of position. Big guards is something she really lacked last year and which became an issue playing teams with bigger guards.

Major changes
- Having 4 bigs instead of two
- adding 2 big freshman guards 5'10 and 5'11
- a year of experience winning

I'm hoping that we don't have our starters playing as many minutes this year as we had last year. Our kids wore down---during each game and over the season.
Though we won the first and second quarters of games over the season, we lost both the third and fourth quarters. By yearend we were saddled with tired and injured kids. During conference play Makira averaged 36.6 minutes per game, Genesis 31.6, Adalia 32.4 and Kendall 32.7. It seemed like each of them fought against bigger girls virtually every game. I hope our added depth means that their average minutes can drop to around 27 minutes per game.

Huh?? No mention of Shay Bollin or Cori Allen. Not to minimize the impact of Hobby and Dolan, but Bollin, much higher rated out of high school than anyone on the Illini roster, was hampered by injuries last year, and Cori Allen might be the highest rated freshman recruited by Illinois in recent memory.
Cori Allen was also a very important piece on an high school team that was crowned national champions this year. She will be a very valuable addition to this team

Indiana is going to be a real challenge. They beat us twice last year and return everyone except Berger. They are much bigger than we are. Will likely challenge for the conference title.

We should be good, and improved compared to last season.... but likely still a year or so away from the full ''Green Revolution''

Now that we have more depth I hope Shauna plays does some pressing or half court trap to take advantage of our speed.

Although we are bigger there are some major bigs at Md, Ohio State and Indiana.

I don't think we will sneak up on people like last year but we are much more experienced, deeper and bigger. The talent level is much improved.

Home game Feb 19th vs Indiana will be broadcast on FOX

It is interesting that WBB has fewer games on Peacock than the Men’s. It will be interesting to see how ratings play out. I think in the pst the ease of watching Big Ten games made the Big Ten successful. In comparison I don’t even know if I got the Pac 12 network and was too lazy to turn the sec network on. If a week night game wasn’t on ESPN FS1 or BTN it probably wasn’t worth watching

I know Kendall, even though she is a senior, has said she will be back for 2 more years, one of which is her Covid year. Both Makira and Genesis have a covid year available and could be back for 2 more years. Has anything been said about how long they will be playing for Illinois?

I'm not aware of any official announcement but I think that all 3 will be there next year.

Having missed out on 2024 guards Aaliyah Guyton and Shay Ijiwoye, is there any possibility the staff would double back on Lincoln HS (IL) guard Kloe Froebe, who is committed to Colorado State?

No news here... simply pondering our recruiting and future roster. Someone else may have more info or thoughts on Froebe or our recruiting outlook, which is awfully exciting. (Someone is thinking "we can't be wasting time and schollies on players not ranked in the top 100").

What I see in Froebe's highlights is a highly instinctive and competitive combo guard who is not particularly tall (5'9"), or a leaper, and doesn't look as strong or play as fast as Guyton. Froebe was a unanimous first team 3A all state selection last year off of a 28 points per game average, a state tournament record point total in the semifinal, and leading her team to a one-loss season and state runner-up finish. One can expect there's more to come in her upcoming senior season. She is not on ESPN's top 100 list.

My speculation on her signing with Colorado State was that lacking in certain physical measurables might have limited the attention she got from bigger programs on her offer list (like Illinois), and the Rams offer a clearer pathway to playing time--typical reason one might choose a mid-major over a major program.

Yet Iowa Hawkeye 3-year starter Gabbie Marshall is the same height, similarly not the fastest on the court, and wasn't ranked top 100 in her high school class per my search. Marshall is a heck of a player who contributes what she is capable of at a high level--tough defense, finding her spot on the floor, knocking down threes, handling the ball now and then, and lighting a fire with her competitiveness.

I'm wondering a) whether it's worth continuing to recruit a guard in the '24 class, or move on; b) whether Froebe is the one to recruit (I wouldn't disparage it); and c) whether Froebe would consider switching her commitment if there's serious interest from a major program like ours.

Here's a callback to highlights of a Froebe-Guyton matchup. More game highlights available on YouTube.

Quick question about Camille Jackson. I remember she came in pretty highly rated, but coming off an injury.
I haven't noticed her mentioned in any future projections. Is she still recovering?

WOW - none stop stream of 4 star and 5 star HS players visiting campus including top 30. Brad should be so lucky.

In one year we went from perennial last place in big 10 to 5th of 18 and still climbing.

Josh better be ready to backup the Brinks truck when the bluebloods come calling.

I'm more worried about Iowa than the traditional blue bloods. Bluder is 61 and has that program rolling. They are selling out Carver Hawkeye---a stat that Green mentions often. Iowa City ia about an hour from Clinton where her son's grandparents live.

Bluder makes $1M vs. $800,000 for Green.
