Thank you Dan for adding "Upcoming WBB Games" to Home Page. Well deserved recognition & exposure for the Illini Women. They are just a blast to watch.

What Coach Green has been able to donwith this team in short order is amazing!

I wonder how long it has been since the women have had a better record both overall and in the Big Ten than the men’s this late in the season…

That alone speaks to the job Coach Green has done!

I agree. I personally think it was a suspension only in name. I would rather say for not hustling or attitude vs. your benched to watch the game and see it slow down. Teaching experience, I don't know any insights Insiders?

I would not in today's age want to manage these players!

Just returned from Christopher HS sectional, where Ryan Gensler( at least I think it was him), and myself were watching Amiah Hargrove and the Bearcats won their semi-final. Hard to believe there's a better junior in the state.

She also has offers from Iowa and Indiana and probably a lot more. She would be a great addition to the Illini.

The AP ranking is wonderful when it comes to selling the program to fans and recruits, but it doesn't matter to the selection committee. While we are 25 in the AP poll, we're 35 in the NET, one of the metrics used by the selection committee. 35 in the NET equates to a 9 seed.

The other metric the selection committee uses is who you beat. While we've done a great job amassing wins, our issue is that most of those wins are against minnows. In our non-conference schedule, out of our 11 games, we had one Quad 1 win at Missouri and one Quad 3 loss against Deleware (10-1 overall). From there, we had about the easiest conference schedule you could have hoped for. We only played Iowa, Ohio State, and Maryland once (the 2, 3, 4 in the conference). With that, we beat the heck out of the bottom of the conference. 9 out of our 10 conference wins have come against the bottom half of the conference (teams 8-14). Our only win in the top half of the conference is that huge one against Iowa. That game is buttressing our entire resume.

So right now, we are 35 in the Net with three Quad 1 wins (the third is against Nebraska away) and one Quad 3 loss. A 9 or a 10 seed is just about right. We do have a chance to bump it up a little bit. Nebraska at home would be a Quad 2 win. They're on a 4 game-losing streak and one of the last teams projected in the tournament. Take that and Rutgers and make a little noise in the B1G tournament and we could be around a 7 or 8 seed. I would guess that's the best we can hope for unless we win the B1G Tournament, amass several more Quad 1 wins doing it, and really force the selection committee to make a last-second decision on us (not something the selection loves to do, but it's not completely unheard of).

No matter what, this season has defied all reasonable expectations. Yes, if we are honest with ourselves, our schedule broke perfectly for us, but let's be real, this program desperately needed that added bit of luck, and the ladies have done an incredible job taking advantage of it. As frustrating as the men's season has been (though I have hopes it's going to end with a run!), this women's season has kept my spirits up. I'm so thankful to finally have a team that's worth giving a d*mn about and that's appointment viewing.
Am I on the right board. That’s 2 posts in a row on this thread with reasonable expectations on the team’s seeding possibilities. What is it with this kinder, gentler, rational thing? //S

P.S This wasn’t a dig at you Ghost or at Gill.

I have no inside knowledge for next year at this time

The 2022-2023 season is the first year where the extra Covid year counts as a scholarship. Not sure if any interest by team or player but seniors Peebles and Lopes would have another season of eligibility. I look for them to be aggressive in the transfer portal because the squad next season has 4 seniors on it.
There's an article on the front page that indicates that Peebles plans to return next year (even though she will go through the senior night ceremony tonight). With the two signed players coming next fall that should put us at 14? Need to get a talented 5 (wo)man with the last schollie.

BRucks- Thanks! Didn't see that about Peebles. Be interesting to see if anyone would transfer out from this squad. Definitely need depth at the 4/5 spot and hopefully have some growth from few ladies on this squad that might get an uptick in minutes next season.

EyeoftheIllini- Might need to show my wife all the nice comments, especially rational. :ROFLMAO: I am quite proud of the ladies. It is weird saying they beat up the cupcakes on the schedule when we are usually the cupcake.

Amiah Hargrove is legit. Does she play on any circuit team during the summer?

I know the Mac Irvin Lady Fire usually have some of the states best recruits and some have been mentioned on this board already.

We've been really healthy up to this point. Guess the law of averages says that we are due for some bad luck.
