Illinois 26, Nebraska 9 Postgame

I'm happy we're winning but. BUT. This is the weakest B1G west in memory. Wisconsin and Iowa are absolute crap this year. the last time we won the B1G with Kittner and Lloyd on offense and our "Attack Defense" in 2001 we went to the Sugar Bowl vs LSU and got run right off the field like we didn't belong there. Which we didn't. Fans calling in to the postgame tonite talking about our "Elite" defense and national champ level coverage ought to remember. We are not SEC caliber football. We just aren't. Enjoy what's happening but don't fool yourselves.
So you are saying just enjoy this a little? Thanks...

In today's era, 9 ppg for a defense over an 8 game period is quite "elite". We will see how it plays out against Purdue, Michigan, and Ohio St, but for now there is every reason to be excited about this team...even if the schedule is turning out to be "weak".

Seriously? Bruh, you need to take a drink and relax.

I could see 14-1.
There is, of course, some number between zero and 1 that represents the probability of that happening...unfortunately, it is quite small and deservedly so But the eyeball test coupled with the fact that there is no weak position group would suggest that it is big enough to peak the interest of any true Illini fan.

If this team continues to grow its offensive efficiency, becomes better at consistent execution, and eliminates blunders....then it is possible. They may not have the physical talent and skills of OSU, but when playing and executing like they can for 60 minutes...they can beat anyone. Or at least they should think they can and I think they are beginning to believe that.

Technically we could probably lose our including the B1G Championship Game and bowl game and be 7-7. Let's win one more to be safe.
That would mean the extremely unlikely scenario of a 4-5 conference record, which I can't imagine is good enough to win the West, especially since one of those losses would be to Purdue. But that's all silly talk.
So I'm running with it - Guaranteed winning season!

Before today there was still the possibility of a 7-way tie with NW owning the tiebreaker in the B1G West. I didn't run any numbers to figure out if losing out while still winning the West is possible but I would guess there is probably a mathematical possibility that exists.

its not Illinois' fault Iowa and Wisc aren't as good as us this season.

And regarding the 2001 Sugar Bowl against L$U (which has absolutely nothing to do with THIS year's team whatsoever but okay) that Illinois team did pretty well all things considered (it being a total home game for L$U, Kittner playing hurt, a couple of bad bounces etc)

As far as Illinois not being "not $EC caliber football" well okay you got us orange kool aid gulpers there but we are currently smashing every single expectation that I can think of in only the 2nd year of the Bielema era.
Sorry NOT sorry for being absolutely thrilled with how things are going so far.

Just like you felt the need to give us this warning, I need you to know that I am absolutely going to fool myself. You can't stop me. Frankly, after everything this team has put us through over all the years, I've earned the right.

On the “Huskerboard” fan site they think Bret B would move to Lincoln in a heartbeat if offered. Someone needs to tell them it’s not the 1990s anymore.
If you mean steroids and Lawrence Phillips types, you are correct.

Love the win especially after the shaky start. Still concerned with the points we leave on the field and some silly penalties. Got to clean some things up and keep getting better. This year is already good and could be something special.

I happy to say we did not play up to our potential today and still dominated a Big Ten team. You are right that this team would need to play a lot better to compete against a top ranked team. However I at least feel like we have a shot in every game and we are in great position to win our division. We still have a viable path to the playoffs even if it is 6%

What a great season to be ab Illini fan. I should say time, because having BB and BU on campus is going to result in many winning seasons. Fun.

I thought the game unfolded as expected; Nebby was motivated and played lights out, but our defense ground them down and took over. What this defense allows, is to be confident even when the games are tight. That's the biggest change I feel under Coach B, that we're always going to leave ourselves a fighting chance. After so many years in which no lead seemed safe, this defense makes it easy to enjoy the game, even if we're trailing. You just know they're going to force pressure and get a pick. And yesterday, they did over and over! So much fun.

Staying off the message boards during the game helps me enjoy both the game and the season. Too many fans are prone to display emotional metldowns over negative plays and could use some Brené Brown videos, to improve the skills of processing emotions. This is such a great year to be a part of Illini Nation.

Thanks for this. As fans, we’d really be lost without your guidance.
