I might be mistaken, but was that a travel? Either way, it was sick !
it was sick and I loved it, also technically not a travel for the most part.

Thank the NBA for this by the way. The step back is basically taking advantage of the gather dribble(or zero dribble as some call it). A shooter is allowed to gather his feet when getting into shooting position if the gather begins before he has two hands on the ball after a dribble. Somebody decided to push the boundaries on that(Harden famously does the most exaggerated form of this) being as there is no rule on how far one can 'gather' their feet while preparing to shoot. I know it looks weird and Damonte was close to having two hands on the ball to start the move but that is what is going on there and why no travel called or Indiana complaints were made. this gets even more confusing when you through in the 2 steps allowed while attempting a shot.

Refs came out with two super ticky-tack fouls after half time, but then they really cleaned everything up. Nice change of pace! Anyone notice Damonte drives past his defender, gets that defender on his back, has an open lane to the glass and then Damonte just STOPS and looks for someone to pass to? That's gotta drive Brad nutz. In the second half he finally drove, no hesitation and went up to draw the foul. FINALLY!!! Please, please, please finish that drive and get the basket or draw the foul. Damonte is so quick and strong on the bounce... he just needs to finish. Nice to see him pulling the trigger a bit more from the arc too. Just a solid effort from beginning to end from this team. Very fun to watch.
Thought he pulled up more than once and looked like he had a lane. Not sure if gunshy because he has been blocked or knew there was a blocker.

Right up there with the Randle dunk for great IU highlights.

Belo had a nice game. Missed a couple shots he often makes, but stayed under control and didn't force anything.
I hope Belo is Ok, their other Big ran through Belo's screen and he looked shaken up.

Griffey's shot did humiliate the opponent. Specifically Tom Crean.
I liked this play, of course. But it really wasn't as good as could be. It was really bad broken defense. And Griffey couldn't have looked more...timid? Uncertain?....about himself.

I understand there was under a second left. But it still isn't a super inspiring basketball play for me to watch.

My favorite part about it, is the national call.

"It's been that kind of year in college basketball! #1 goes tumbling down, yet again!"

It's the type of sentiment that makes college basketball so compelling, wrapped up in a moment.

Matt Norlander got to chat with Brad Underwood on the bus today back from IU:

Thanks for that. I enjoyed it. Key BU observation, regarding the understanding that this year's team possesses about playing in March:

"I'm not a fortuneteller, but the one thing that, last year, our team didn't understand was the urgency of the end. [...] You have to understand that for six nights, you have to bring it or you go home. Being a one-seed means nothing. I think this team can believe more because they've been there now. They remember that locker room after that loss. We had nobody to really grasp that concept a year ago."

The other thing Norlander notes is BU's focus on defense, which wins championships. BU understands that and preaches it the way Lou did. One of many reasons why I love watching our team play.

Yeah he really ought to be playing 3/4 and is forced into the wrong position based on the roster.
Woodson said he isn't comfortable taking 3 pointers. Can't play a 3 if you won't take an open 3

I've always thought Tyler wasn't timid or uncertain about himself as he pulled in his arms after scoring. He seemed absolutely stunned that he had at least three steps to the hole completely unguarded for a wide open layup, and not an IU player within 15 feet of him. As was every single person watching that moment live.

And, yeah, how Zeller fell asleep for a moment and left the lane completely open remains a mystery. Meh. I'll take it. ;):illinois:

Get going. We'll expect your finished product on Monday morning..
I decided to run the scoring by "quarters" numbers only for B1G games in part because I am lazy and partly because Quad 3 & 4 results against the Little Sisters of the Poor don't really matter. Those numbers backed up only one of my theories - - we really do play our worst basketball in the second quarter. My main theory - that we are really at our best in the final ten minutes - does not hold water. We were outscored in the final ten minutes in 5 out of 12 games.

Here is our average B1G scoring differential by "quarter".
1st 10 +3.5
2nd 10 -0.083
3rd 10 +6.92
4th 10 +0.42

It looks like we play our best ball to start the second half; suggesting that BU really is good at making adjustments.

Illinois defense stiffens

The Hoosiers boasted the Big Ten’s best defense in conference games alone, per KenPom, entering play Saturday. But Illinois’ second-half performance offered a reminder they are a close No. 2.

Can some of that 4th quarter drop off be due to the fact that our starters are playing so many minutes and the legs are starting to give out a bit? I know that Trent “never wants to come out” and that he always gives us everything he’s got, but would that “everything” be a bit more effective if he and the other starters got a few more breaths on the bench earlier in the game?

Wow. It can get crazy. Good illustration of all that was Penn State guard tying game with Iowa on 3 pointer. He had a large step back in order to get space from defender, but now he knew he couldn't elevate enough over Keegan Murray because his feet were so far apart, so he shuffled both feet towards each other, and then elevated for the shot. Ofc it all happened quickly. And I thought the guy traveled twice. Thanks for explaining.

Those were some very good years.
It's funny you should mention Wikpedia's sports data with sarcasm. I recall in the past few weeks a few errors. Not huge, but math is math. And no, it's not the Mandela Effect:) I don't have the patience to go through the "process" of becoming an editor.
