Somewhere in all of this there's likely a path to a sweet NIL deal and becoming like the official pizza of Illini Basketball. (Of course that would be kind of a shame with local options like Papa Del's, Monical's and Garcia's.)
Wouldn't that be sweet. Our players get NIL from Pizza Hut because coach busted heads in their parking lot in his glory days! What a story that would be!

It's a valid point ... unless I'm missing something. The refs were just plain bad for both sides. That leads to make-up calls.
Yea at the time I thought it unfair but after a while I thought Malik Hall was just crying cause he got stuffed. The ref saw every bit of it and thought correctly that nothing was injured. Curbelo was less a known thing and they didn't see it. But MSU got a potential 5 point play after a 3 second call I don't think was random

I'm not quite sure what you're expecting out of the guy 10 minutes after losing a game. They've lost 4 of 5, they're obviously trending in the wrong direction, he's frustrated....should he be sunshine and roses, patting our guys on the back? Watch BU's post game interview after Rutgers. He wasn't exactly gracious in defeat. These coaches are human.
I thought Underwood was very gracious. He is always very complimentary of the opposing coach win or lose.

Regardless of the W, these Big10 refs never fail to surprise me with their ineptitude. That was an absolute clown show to both sides. The mid-play stoppage while Curbelo was down made no sense, the foul on Jake (which took place well before the shot) while the 3 point shot went down for an additional 1-1(a 5 point swing opportunity, are you kidding?) was brutal, and the 3 second call was perplexing.
I just don't get it. I went to watch ISU vs Bradley in Peoria today. About half way through the second half, I realized how great the officiating was. It's the Missouri Valley for Pete's sake!! That being said, I've never seen more incompetent reffing than in the Big 10 this year. On any level.

Hope it doesn't affect our run iin the NCAA's :(

Great win today FIGHTING Illini!!

BU said “all the credit to Rutgers, they outplayed us.” And something about Pizza Hut.

Izzo didn’t mention pizza I know that much

The last three Illini teams have been very different in a lot of ways but the fearlessness and pugnacity they have in common has made them such a joy to watch, I try to never lose my appreciation of that.

A round, strange looking particle (Covid and/or Krutwig) has cruelly denied the previous two the ending they deserved. That's the only chapter left to be discovered, really.
I remember talking with my wife on so many occasions during the Groce era about how I just wanted them to play HARD. Drive the lane; go to the boards; act like you care as much as we all do. Sometimes, I wish I cared a little less---it would make watching the games easier, if perhaps less enjoyable. I can tell from the Apple Watch on my wrist just how much my heart rate fluctuates during the games. I sometimes pause the game just to get calmed down a bit.

Yeah, we won't always have the best players, but we can always have the hardest working players. That comes directly from the head coach. When you get to be in your later years like me, you take such great pleasure in watching a team play the way you could play when you were young. The last few years under Coach U have been among the best years of my basketball watching life. Even when they struggle from 3 and look out of sync, the effort is there in spades.

Go Illini!!
