Illinois 98, Nebraska 87 Postgame

This team has the heart and connection of a champion....but their propensity to play so poorly at times belies the experience of their "old guy" dominated lineup. We are so fortunate to have TSJr. on this team. He never sits a game out and almost always leaves hardly anything on the floor in a losing effort. Not so much the rest of the team.

Regardless, the next...optimistically 7...games will be an adventure. Let's hope we don't play Houston anytime soon or their intensity may win that match-up before halftime.

Now, go give Wisky two halves of solid play and shooting and maybe we can get to the SS without anyone having a heart attack or using up their allotment of profanity for the year.

Props to TSJr. for his leadership today and Luke Goode for providing a catalytic spark when sorely needed.
Based on how Houston played today, I like our effort s tad bit more.

TJ was out of this world. And in the second half, guys stepped up. DEFENSE wins games, rebounding wins games. Heart wins games. If staff installs a press-break and inbounds plays, and the fellas remember who the F*** they are, the world is theirs. Take it, fellas! And bring us along on your coat tails :)

I have a feeling were going to see this photo a lot moving forward.

Maybe it’s because I’m old.
Maybe it’s because I simply enjoy fixating on the game.
Maybe it’s because I don’t feel the need to express my enthusiasm or frustration online.
What I know to be true is that once, just once, I thought I would follow the game thread while watching.
That ended after about 3 minutes.
I honestly don’t understand the whole game thread thing. The negativity is simply off the charts.
The comments at times are ridiculous.
I just don’t get it….
Haha! Me too. I don’t need help getting my blood pressure up when we are losing. Hot takes and hyperbole don’t help.

At the time Goode's banked 3 was a huge shot. From the day the 3 point line was added only the other teams banked in 3s. The last few years we have hit some.

Someone asked about Dain. When he was playing nobody got the ball to him.

In any debate for first team AA, all you need to do regarding TSJr, is ask every coach who they would choose for their team in a draft of 5 at a time. It would not surprise me at all if Edey and TSJr. were on every top 5. He has two elite talents and a third, shooting from the arc, that is pretty darned strong for a guy his size. His driving and finishing a long with his defensive/effort are unsurpassed by anyone. That he is seen as a huge plus and a leader by his teammates and coaches should make him a lottery pick. I will not comment on his legal issues as is appropriate, but the accusation does not fit his previous behavior or public character. What he did tonight likely could not have been accomplished by any other player in college basketball...but there is no way to know. Just happy he plays for the Illini and will become an Illini legend.

The best part of today is it was clearly layed out in 2d half, to all of our players ...what can create a dominating win...

1. intense D
2. Confident offense
3. Impose will, create foul shots
4. aggressive boards
5. Positive attitude...never give up

....rinse and repeat this recipe and we will celebrate in Phoenix on 8 april!

I am bullish on 23-24 Illini!!!

Last time I watched a full game.. was when we blew that 15 point lead to Maryland during the Covid years. Not going to lie, had a stroke that night and have since not been able to watch a full game. Illini basketball has been tough to watch. Stress is an understatement! Until, tonight! Watched, somehow, the entire game! 😊😊

There was a time I would follow/comment in game threads for US men's soccer games. I quit that. I don't follow the game threads, but I'm happy to engage in the pre and postgame threads. Too much emotion for the in-game threads.

Amazing performance. Walton and Jabbar come to mind. Plus, Pistol Pete.
TSJ with a great day! But other performances that come to mind, and players who could dominate a game, include: Adrian Dantley (very strong) 46 points vs UCLA to snap 88 game win streak), Rick Mount who was best pure shooter I ever saw (61 points vs Iowa), and David Thompson who (at 6' 4") could out jump Bill Walton who was 7 to 8 inches taller (57 points). All of these before there was a 3 point line.

Nice. I thought of Rick Mount too. Saw him three times in college at Assembly Hall. Unreal.

All great performances, however, TSJ's relentless defensive work on their leading scorer separates
his performance for me. Also, zero turnovers.
