Yeah, I should have caught that an offensive lineman wouldn't really care too much about the DL coach leaving.

Not necessarily. The DL coach could have been his main recruiter, main contact, with the OL coach also in contact since he would have been an OL.

Position coaches are not always the main recruiter for a kid, although obviously is involved.

I think he meant the OL coach who left for Mizzou

You are correct....it was the OL coach to Mizzou....I'm still whizzed off about the DL situation however....mixed old business with new. Nice catch and thanks for the correction alert.

it was a quiet period when Ricker departed. No one from the staff could contact Oseland. If any other staff was in contact at that time, they were in violation. Oseland made comments at that time about no one contacting him about Ricker leaving. Seems to suggest some other schools were still making contact;)

Then Illinois needs to bone up on what exactly is permitted during a Quiet Period. Nothing in the rules says that Coach Beckman or anyone from the staff couldn't have called the Oseland's to explain the situation during a quiet period. Even in a dead period, coaches can call prospective student-athletes.

Either the staff didn't prioritize Oseland high enough or they dropped the ball on this one.

There's at least one other viable alternative.

I guess it's possible that the staff did try to call but that it's being misrepresented for some reason if that's this other alternative. Or is there another explanation that you think is also viable?

The former. I'd say "did call" instead of "did try to call", but other than that, yeah. I have no clue what went on there, but no coaching staff is that inept for a Plan A guy, especially in their backyard. Lots of times when kids get out of Dodge, they/their families say things to avoid/minimize blowback. Again, not saying this is the case with QO, just that it's common practice.

I could have sworn a quite period is zero contact and a dead period is no face to face contact. Can't remember exactly from when I was a recruiter in college.

I would doubt it with any commits but you never know.

The staff did a fantastic job putting together the list of juniors and sophomores visiting (and seniors). Hats off to the them. I know it means nothing now, but getting them on campus is part of the battle.

DL Josh King visiting for Jr Day this weekend. I think our chances with him are just above zero, but here's the staffs chance to sell him hard:illinois:

Per Hudl, he's a 2015 OLB/WR

I think I saw him walking with Cubit and either Golesh or Bellamy after the basketball game last night. I knew he was a tall white guy this might have been him.

I think I might have seen a live commitment.
