Ricky Smalling looks like a quality recruit. Good first grab. Glad to have him and Kendall on board. Keep it rolling!

Smalling looks like he could develop into a legitimate B1G starting WR by his sophomore or junior year. Great pickup! Coming in at an 88 on 247, wouldn't that have made him our best recruit in the last class?

Now I hope they can get Jeff Thomas on board. IMO Smalling and Thomas are the 2 best receivers in the state.

Just so everyone is clear, there wasn't a "first" to commit to #illini. Smalling and Smith both told Lovie at same exact time. Pretty cool.

I have no doubt that this staff is going to recruit very well. And that's the floor.

Kudos to the kids, for breaking the ice. Kudos to the staff. First of many.

I think the great exodus of Illinois' top recruits to MSU might be placed on hold. Thanks Lovie.

How you guys feeling about being a football school? I like it.

I would love nothing more than to be a football school! Basketball is so dependent upon so few guys and often times it is played in such a selfish way that I just don't enjoy it nearly as much as a real team sport. And, I think football is a real team sport. Besides, nothing seems to excite a fan base and energize a school like a good football program. I want the 80's back! Even better, the early 1900's when we were winning championships.

But Smalling's potential impact isn't limited to his production on the field. He is well-known in Illinois among his peers and will certainly be the type of commit that other players will want to join forces with. Players like LB Micah Awodiran, Juawan Treadwell, and others will likely take notice to Smalling's commitment and more seriously consider their in-state school.

Part that I love the most about this!

I like this kids film. He has a lot of YAC!
Plus he is a 4 star? I hope that is a harbinger of what's to come.
