Fairly easy IMHO... Running backs have limited playing cycles before injuries take them out of the game - It's a position that takes a LOT of punishment. So making the NFL bucks WHILE YOU CAN seems the best option ... again IHMO...

That’s really no longer the case anymore. The college landscape has changed completely. Athletes can make money now.

I can't see a scenario where Chase Brown is on this team next year. He's already being considered a top 10 RB in the upcoming draft. I don't see him inking higher than that staying next year.
When I last checked late in the regular season Chase was not a Top 100 NFL draft pick. Only Spoon made the cut, somewhere just inside #100.

Yeah I heard... Like a couple of years ago dude... But if you get injured in college, your PRO prospects are diminished.... AND good NFL players still make more than college players...
I get Chase Brown is real talented in the college game. I don't always translate how that goes to the professional level.

I agree with both sides to this. Chase Brown sticking around could get him injured or will definitely put more miles on him if he comes back. Getting drafted and signing a contract is great at any professional level. If there are a few things he can work on to improve or not even drop his draft stock next year I could see him coming back as well. Brown could make NIL money plus extra down the line if in contention for different awards. Brown trying to run it back another year and set even loftier goals for himself next season would be a dream. Kofi had my respect with whatever decision he made, same goes with Brown. They loved Illinois and gave there all on the court/field.

I get it. Chase has a decision to make. Come back and get a guaranteed big amount of money to play one more year in college and avoided a loaded RB class in this years draft and maybe move up to a 3rd round pick and risk injury. Or go in the 5th-7th round and try and make a roster.

Love Chase as much as any Illini we've seen around in the last 15 or so years. But we all know the risk of an injury and what it could do to a potential NFL career. He has about 750 touches in his college career, if he comes back he'll be 24 years old at the time of next years draft with 1000 touches in college, that's pretty old and a lot of mileage for a running back and for a position where careers are the shortest.

I haven't really seen much regarding football NIL deals here or how what we could offer compares to an NFL rookie deal. But it would take a Heisman winning season to improve his draft stock and I think the best "Bet on yourself" move is it enter the draft.

As an Illini fan, sign me the hell up to have him back. But at the end of the day, I do just want the best for the student athletes.

I have no insider information and do not know enough to opine about somebody's pro vs college aspirations. I am going to wait and see how this all shakes out.

Not trying to be a wet blanket, but TDV's return is dependent on a waiver. And expecting the NCAA to make an expedient call there seems, I don't know, foolish? Meanwhile, a lot of QBs who can fill the hole quite well are gonna be gone. Someone walk me off the ledge.

I love TDV. Had a great season. I'd love to have him back. Think he'd do better, maybe a lot better, in year 2. But really fearing the opportunity cost of this gambit.
