I love the idea of Mertz coming to Illinois!!!
Its early. Stay calm. We will get someone that will fit our system. Mertz may not be the guy for the Illini but if the coaches push for him, I tend to trust that they know what our system could be with him at the helm. Mertz is a pretty smart guy. He knows what it is like to play for a winning program. He is also mobile and can throw. The poor decision making can be coached up. He is like anyone else and wants to get to the next level.
I have no idea who is coming here to Illinois to play QB. But I know Illinois has their target already. And in my mind it’s Card. But the details they gave there are a few guys who fit the bill.

Agreed not sure where he lands a lot of hype.
Card would be better then mcnamara and I wanted him badly. Just trying to not get my hopes up..

For what we want to do, he’d be a terrible fit.
With transfer qb’s it’s all about college performance and how they can fit the system. I think Card would fit, so do like 20 other schools including Notre Dame. Mertz can fit the system but he is streaky and has fits of inaccuracy. DJ played on a team with more talent than everyone else and is more a product of his high school ranking than actual performance.
Take that kid in a heartbeat- some reason I'm thinking he'll wind up in the sec- maybe Tennessee.. anyone who would pass on this kids athletic ability- mobility- experience and CFP experience is absurd. However I do agree with illini0440 that he may not be the best fit - that being said he's still a very viable option.

Yes - he just isn't a very good QB. Clemson would be in the playoff if Dabo hadn't been so stubborn re: DJ
If he wants to become a TE, then that's a different discussion - he has the size and athleticism to be great with some work
I see what you did there.
Obviously the profile of the program has increased significantly and this staff has shown they can pull a rabbit out a hat before, but It would still be pretty surprising if Card came here with the other options he's likely to have.

Uiagalelei going to UCLA. There's a reason he's not returning to Clemson, he is very inconsistent. Reminds me of BP. Very HARD PASS!!
