I know preferred walk ons get no scholarship money and no training table benefits.
Do they get any "help" in gaining admission to the University ? its a tough admit for many, and I have to think one of the perks of the preferred walk on status is the football program does what they can in getting you admitted. True ?

edit : just read this

Do preferred walk-ons get meals?

Yes due to a change in the NCAA rules walk-ons and preferred walks on get meals in division one programs.

Though this was not always the case, many players even scholarship players told stories of when they were unable to afford food while playing NCAA sports

Shout out to all my homies at the Lake in the Hills movie theater. Who wants some Steak & Shake?

The full name is Harry D. Jacobs High School aka the Harry D, and their colors are brown and gold (aka the ole' pee and poo), mascot is the Golden Eagles, and their helmets in my day were a knockoff of the Philadelphia Eagles with a big chunk of brown strewn across a yellow helmet.

As you can imagine, they were the target of a great many jokes at Fox Valley Conference sporting events.
My son played at Jacobs

I remember when before they built Prairie Ridge high school and before that,Jacobs. Randall Rd was nothing but cornfields from Crystal Lake to Elgin. That's how old I am.

There are now as many traffic lights as there were cornstalks then.

Depends on how much the coaching staff "wants" the player. My daughter ran track and cross-country at UIUC and was borderline for admission (probably would miss out). She was told by the coach at the time that they had a certain number of slots they could tell DIA to get filled.

BTW, she's kinda pissed about the whole meal thing and that she missed out on it.:ROFLMAO:

24/7 has him listed as QB, though on his Twitter account he identifies as athlete. Saw a tweet by him about stats for one of his games — Passing 1/1 for a 31 yard TD pass, Rushing 8 carries for 144 and a rushing TD, 4 Receiving for 114 yards and a TD — so athlete seems appropriate.

I might be yelling into the void here but.....is the staff sending out more offers this year than the past two years?

No idea, but I’m guessing it is just offer season makes it appear that way. According to 24/7 Sports, Illini made about 170 offers for each of last 2 classes. Right now they have Illini at just a shade over 100 for 2024 and a shade under 30 for 2025. I’d we’re on pace to get to 170 offers again, but really have no idea.

Feel like they send out offers in bunches. Competitively, imo harder for people/ other teams to keep track of offers and level of interest. I’ve liked this strategy vs singular offers.
Also maybe they just have better in roads/ cast a net to see how many are interested in camps/ spring practices.

quite obviously , our 2 year record under BB is WAY better than the previous 7-8 years under Smith & Beckman. I have to believe this is what is giving them confidence to make more offers to a number of higher rated prospects .

3* DL. If we have a hole we need to start filling it’s DL. Hope we can land a couple of these guys.

Yes, DL definitely has holes. RB and LB positions too. RB position next year is a mystery. IMO, Love and McCray are not every down backs. Really good fill ins but not starters. After these 2, we have no idea. Hopefully, Feagin or Anderson can prove me wrong.

I grew up in Cook County, so going out Jacobs seemed like a trip to another state. Little did I realize I'd be living in LITH 10 years later.
When I moved to Chicago, my wife and I lived in the city. Once we drove to Golf Mill Mall Theatre (Niles). I said to her, "where the hell are we?". A few laters we lived right nxt to it. I had a business meeting that required I drive from Schaumburg to Libertyville. When I got home told my wife about driving along seeing nothing but farmland, horse farms, etc. then all of sudden there is this huge shopping mall. It felt like Oz just appeared. I didn't know where I was. My wife said "yea, It's called Hawthorne. I understand it's pretty nice". 5 years later we were living in Vernon Hills. I saw the last horse farm for about 2 years. Now I have a couple daughters and some friends that live in different towns along the Fox Valley. I can't believe the suburban expansion around Chicago in the last 40+ years.

Don't forget about Laughrey. Beilema was impressed with him then he got banged up. Didnt hear much after that but he should be healthy.

When I moved to Lake in the Hills (Puddle In the Bumps?) there were about 6000 people living there, and I felt like a pioneer living on the west side of Randall Road. When I moved to Maryland in the mid-2000s there were more than 28,000 people living there and it was populated all the way to Huntley (which has since grown out all the way to Route 47 or maybe even to the west of that.
