I've read where he keeps having soft tissue injuries. If true, don't count on him to be THAT guy.
McCray’s injury was referred to as soft tissue and it cost him the season too. It seems like certain players can be prone to it or at least have more trouble fully recovering. I hope they are getting enough rest and treatment to get there. Really talented guys when healthy.

was gonna say...maybe he had something else going on in addition to his original injury, but the knee isn't considered a soft tissue injury.
Correct. I also realize we aren’t going to get told the full story by Bret and that’s fine. Hopefully they were able to get the meniscus cleaned up and he will be good to go.

Paducah, Ky

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — After five years and the chance at being a starter at Ball State, John Paddock transferred up to Illinois as a walk-on who enters the mix at quarterback.
Illinois also added transfer Luke Altmyer, a four-star transfer prospect from Mississippi who is the favorite to win the job. Altmyer has only two collegiate starts to his name, with Paddock being the only other quarterback on the roster who has seen meaningful college snaps.

Tyler McClure switches sports

Tyler McClure was sitting in his apartment in Centralia in October. He was a junior college baseball player at Kaskaskia College, but then got the chance to play Division I football.
McClure, a football and baseball player at Centennial High School in Champaign, is the latest addition to the Illini’s wide receiver room as a preferred walk-on. Conversations started with the coaching staff after McClure’s first season at Kaskaskia.

Rumblings that the haves will push for 100 schollies (current limit is 85). Our newly turbo-charged PWO program will give us a good start. I love competency. And our recruiting supports staff is doing a good job IDing relatively unsung kids who can play at this level.

not surprising, but wow, that will really change the transfer portal. If people think getting playing time now is hard, imagine adding more competition. 15 extra players doesn't sound like a lot, but if break it out by position, it seems more daunting for playing time:

OL: 3
WR: 2
RB: 2
TE: 1
DL: 3
LB: 2
DB: 2
