Plenty of guys who spurned other staff to come to Illinois late in their recruitment despite all the love showered on them by other programs, including Nunn, JCL, Serge/Marcus, etc.

You love it when it happens to you, hate it when the players head elsewhere.
I think he's referring to the lack of communication between JG and the Illini staff not just choosing Ali over uofi. That he went dark on the Illini staff while at the same time he was somehow being convinced to go to Ali doesn't seem kosher.

Kid wants the ranking
Kid wants the offers
Kid wants the recognition
Kid wants to win

Kid chooses a mid-major when he had a chance to play on a legitimate potential B1G championship caliber roster.

Lol. Recruiting. If these rumors have any legs... what a joke

I can imagine the conversation in a year or two when Ford brings in an actual pg. 'Sorry kid, we're going to have to slide you over to the 2, or the 3.'

That is alright I'm sure the 6,800 fans per game they get in that stadium will love it! :thumb:

You guys are forgetting we're talking about a 17 year old kid. Maturity and wisdom go out the window in these situations.

Can't believe this stuff still catches people off guard. :D

Have to admit even after Cliff, Snider, Evans, etc...... I still got caught off guard. And I thought I had learned. Feel like Charlie Brown with Lucy and the football

Nobody really knows the extent of communication between Goodwin and our staff, nor do they know the communication of other Illini recruits with other staff.

Were Serge and Marcus men of character and perfect communicators when they mad a change of heart at the last minute and chose Illinois? I can tell you with certainty that RMK/Indana were pissed.

Goodwin is the same person, whether he chooses SLU, Illinois, or another school. And he ever picked Illinois, he would still be showered with love and be labeled an "illini guy" no matter what the communication is with the staff right now. Nunn was an "illini guy," as was Cliff had he committed to Illinois.

Goodwin is still the man of character, the tireless leader, the glue guy, the endless worker, the player all his teammates respect, etc. no matter where he ends up. That is simply recruiting.

They have legs. He's not talking to anyone. The Friday or Monday good news I can't confirm or deny....since....he's not talking to anyone

Goodwin

As someone who is not really an Illinois basketball fan (I spend almost all my time on the football board)

I have to say if Goodwin goes to SLU it makes no sense. I kind of like that he would like to stay in St. Louis area. But I think Ford is a poor coach and was a terrible hire. I can't figure out what he sees there that he would like.

Let's forget about Goodwin, shall we? Tim Finke's very good, but Ramey/Ayo and Gordon are clearly more elite.

Bit premature for that I think. Once he actually commits, or something more concrete than message board rumors comes out, then sure, forget him all you want.
I'll be right there with you, btw. Altoff plays my high school alma mater every year, and I was really looking forward to going to watch him this winter. If He chooses SLU, well, that's $5 more I'll have to spend at the tavern that weekend...

Where is all the news coming from then? Made up, BS, someone speaking for him, or kid is talking?

Aside from being disappointed to not get him, I'm not looking forward to seeing more of the hiring of people close to key targets as a recruiting strategy. Smart tactic if you're a struggling program, but it just feels a little dirty to me.

If you can't beat them, join them. IMO we haven't done this enough (or at all?). The NCAA isn't going to punish you for it, so it should be a tool in your recruiting toolkit. Obviously to be used in the right situation and sparingly.

No question that JGood is a stud with the heart of a lion, but he wouldn't play the point at Illinois. We need point guards and big guys. Get Frazier and Kiir, then call it a class unless some superstar like Scruggs wants to join. I'm happy as heck about 2017 if that happens, even without Scruggs.

He may not play PG at SLU either. Just because Ford is telling him that doesn't mean it will actually happen. Ford will promise him whatever it takes to get him to sign.

On another board they're flat out accepting it as fact and one poster claimed he knew the amount.
Always happens when a kid flips, whether true or not. I'm sure we'll never know all that went into his decision as ILLOB alluded to but I'm just going to chalk it up to wanting to play PG and it being his favorite childhood team. Naive perhaps, but it makes things easier. :)

It is his choice but I'm disappointed in the way he has conducted himself in the last 2 weeks. Both he and his family are really good people and that is why I'm surprised it has gone this direction. Come on Jordan, man up and treat people with respect who have believed in you from the beginning. If its SLU then so be it but you have been raised by good parents and your HS coach is a total class act.

I played against Althoff in HS and I don't know if I'd call Leib a "total class act" but it could also have to do with the HS I went too. We were their biggest game outside of conference play when we played each other every year. Not sure if we still do

Obelix spouting lots of wisdom here. It sucks if all the SLU rumors are true but we'll be fine and will move on regardless.

Hey, If you followed around the prettiest girl in school for 2 years and then she went to the prom with someone else would you think she was a jerk because you gave her so much attention and you got disappointed with the results of all your efforts? If she is interested in someone else just move on and work on your presentation for the next attempt:D!

No but if she publicly stated multiple times over the last year that I was her favorite choice for prom and then a couple weeks before just stopped talking to me completely I'd be a bit upset. ;)

The bottom is what bothers me the most about this whole thing. I would be willing to bet the second SLU gets a kid who can play point decently, jgood is going to get moved to the wing.

Just like how all the bigs get told they will play on the wing and choose a school based on that. Then they get stuck on the low block
