You can have both. 5th year scholarships given due to Covid... do not count against the total number of scholarships next year. You can fill your scholarship total with returning players and recruits, then add as many scholarships as you need for seniors wanting to return for an extra year. The returning seniors could, of course, increase competition for playing time..... and lead some recruits to rethink commitments, or even for some regular returning players to consider transferring.
Thank you. I thought they were still counting towards the total

The transfer portal this year is going to be crazy. I think the staff will be searching it diligently, particularly in the area of front court players.(y)
TC do we chase Carr from Minnesnowta or do we keep after the guards we’re going after? TyTy, Burnette, and-so on.

Crazy is right! I’m betting there will be close to 2000 players. I wonder if some will end up without a scholarshiop.

I can’t see Frazier or Damonte coming back.
Thought any rumors of that were squashed at Senior night. I would think if Illinois makes a deep run that they would capitalize on that and try to play professionally. If, and I say if because as much as I want them to go all the way, this is the NCAA tournament and one bad game and anyone can get knocked out. Illinois included. That being said IF they get to the final four Kofi is all but gone. What I would hope is With the success of his former two teammates (Ayo and Ace) that Burnett commits and he will be a one and done. Not sure how they fill the void left by Kofi. My guess would be a transfer. Add Hutchinson in the mix along with the incoming class and those who will remain. We would be an easy Top Ten preseason selection. A big win today and a deep run will do wonders for in state recruiting for some time moving forward.
Got to give A TON Of credit to Ayo and his family!
They have been unbelievable ambassadors for the program and getting Illinois back to a perennial contender. Ayo and Kofi need their jerseys hanging from the ceiling of the Assembly Hall (State Farm Center). Let’s get it done today and keep that momentum going!!!!!!
Go Illini!!!!!!!🔷🔶🔹🔸🔷🔶🔹🔸

If Burnett was planning on one and done I think he'd already be going G League instead of transferring. He and Ace were the same rank and Miller has had better success his freshman year. Unless they both explode as soph's I see them on a similar path as Ayo.

Not current recruiting, not sure where to put it but former target Jordan Nesbitt averaged a whopping 1.2 ppg I saw this year. Perhaps that worked out best for us afterall.

No. He joined the team early in January, like Mac Etienne at UCLA. They are both pre-Freshman because of COVID.

Kofi leaving is kind of expected for me. I’m now concerned about Giorgi.
Giorgi would get a lot of minutes next year if Kofi leaves as expected . Those minutes would likely translate into him having much more value in the overseas basketball market - where he would most likely land if he indeed wants to play professionally .

if Kofi stays for one more year ,that would be awesome
