Someone fill me in on this. What does Alabama's coach have to do with anything right now?
Nothing really other than the fact that he is from wisconsin and there are some pretty tasty openings in the midwest right now.

In this recruiting thread, I think it's about a Tipton Edits post (maybe Twitter?) saying Burnett is likely Alabama-bound. But I can't find it right now, so who knows? Maybe I'm losing my mind.

Wonder if the Pac-12 performance in the tournament this year impacted the decision at all. Their product of basketball much closer to an NBA style then the Big10 right now.

None of what I'm about to say is earth shattering, but I find it hilarious that some posters here think that Illinois is in any way special in how it loses recruits or who it loses them to. Even blue bloods lose out on recruits at the last minute to a lesser school. Check out other teams forums regarding recruiting and gameday threads or national forums like r/CollegeBasketball on Reddit when a big recruit commits and you'll see very similar comments to what you see here. When you're recruiting 17 and 18 year olds (or a few years older for transfers), there's no formula you can point to to know if you should or shouldn't get a recruit. We can now say we have a superior program in comparison to ASU, but that doesn't always matter. @LubbockIlliniFan makes the point about national exposure, national exposure doesn't mean anything for players likely headed to the NBA. Boakye doesn't need national exposure, NBA scouts know right where to find him. National exposure for players like that only matter for personal branding, which doesn't matter too much for college players. How many OK State games were nationally televised this season before the tourney, did that stop Cunningham from becoming a likely No. 1 NBA draft pick?

I don't know why Boakye chose ASU over UI, whether something nefarious happened or something was done in a gray area, but the fact is we aren't particularly special in losing out on recruits, it just seems that way if you pay attention to recruiting with blinders on to the hundreds of other recruits we aren't involved in.
It would stand to reason that we on occasion pull the rug out from a competing program and snag a top-50 guy. Am I crazy or does it seem like we are never on the other end of one of these deals?

And he knows that and doesn't care. Ok, maybe he cares, but the folks pulling the strings don't.

Many elite kids view college ball as merely a necessary stepping stone to the league. The sooner, the better, is paramount, by far. The desperation of coaches to get players results in a virtual under the table auction. Anyone who thinks the FBI scandal cleaned things up is deluding themselves,

The whole thing has become the Wild Wild West with some type of self policing. Recruits and their handlers know this and want their share. I'm not sure where this all ends up but for now at least we are joining rather than fighting. This upcoming transfer portal might just be one giant cesspool. #JUSTWIN

Never liked getting rid of the sit out year.. This is turning into a clown show. Enjoy "continuity and chemistry" on teams with 4-5 new players every year.

There are some very good transfers in the portal. Race Thompson, Seth Lundey, John Harrar, Marcus Carr all could fill the junkyard dog role that needs to be filled

He’s had over 70+ teams reach out. Kids a stud, went to UMass because they hired his prep coach.

He will have his pick of where to go, but we’re in on him again. He liked us a lot coming out of HS.

Kid goes to lesser basketball school because they hired mentor and finds out he doesn't really like it.

Where have I seen this theme before?

Why do we need that role to be filled? We have several of those players already. We need the Ayo role to be filled (insofar as that is even possible).

I really feel like Miller held himself back this season. I believe we missed all of the star recruits mentioned in the thread, and picked up a couple of the guys I listed we would be back in the same spot as we are this year.
Obviously we would look different, but if we can bring in some energy, we will be just fine.
Carr was one of the better scorers last year.
Harrar led in offensive rebounds I'm pretty sure.

I posted this morning that there were 839 transfers in the portal, just checked again and it's up to 887. Michigan does not win without transfers Mike Smith and Chaundee Brown. Both were immediately eligible. Same for tOSU with Sueing, Walker and Towns.

I got to photograph the SLU/UMASS game a few weeks ago, and this kid impressed the hell outta me. I remember walking out of the arena thinking, "damn, what a player." (And I hadn't heard of him before the game.)

Burnette mentioned Alabama in an interview when he was in high school. Mentioned someone he was close to, friend or coach.

Tre Mitchell would be awesome as our stretch 4. His asst. coach is marrying his mom and he said Tre will ultimately return to UMass.

Myles Johnson woukd be a great replacement for Kofi. Hope we get an impact transfer or 2.

Yup and the only person in the midwest / east coast who will watch him play is probably Jon Rothstein.
I won’t argue that more people will have heard of you if you play in those regions and your at home crowds will be bigger, so if you want a lot of Twitter followers maybe best to stay in those areas. Butthere is more to choosing a school and the college experience than that. And I can guarantee you that others besides Jon Rothstein will see them — NBA execs. Last year Pac 12 had 6 first rounders and 4 second rounders in NBA draft, while B1G had 1 and 3 respectively. In 2019 Pac 12 had 2 and 4 to B1G’s 2 and 5, and in 2018 it was 3 and 4 versus 4 and 4. And in 2017, Pac 12 had 6 first rounders to B1G’s 3, and 8 seconds versus 1 for B1G. So the important people are seeing kids play out west.
