It's probably not wise to assume that most student athletes care that much about academic program rankings. If anything some are discouraged by the rankings and the word on how competitive it is to get into the program. A lot of times students are just happy to be able to get a STEM degree from any accredited school, especially if they were one of the first to go to college in their family.. It's hard for student athletes to balance a rigorous major and sports, so most of the time the rigor at Illinois is just going to hurt our recruiting IMO. It's completely different than what makes the student appealing for regular students.

I'm not saying this is the case with Wilkes, but it's true for most recruits.

I thought the joke was that IU does not have an engineering program.

I'm not sure any top tier school would guarantee acceptance.

And yet, if he hadn't gotten assurances that he'd be given every bit of possible help to get accepted, would JCL have committed? Had he not gotten accepted do we know that he would not have transferred this year? I'm not sure anyone knows, even JCL.

I have no idea. But nothing about him being waitlisted (was he actually waitlisted?) or having concerns about getting to get into the School of Business proves as evidence that the education aspect of the decision was a top criteria for him. That is how the OP was positioning it.

Personally, if I were a top college basketball recruit, I would find it kind of silly to make that a top priority over several basketball related criteria. Your true major is basketball, whether that is official or not (it should be in my opinion). There are always those few players at the high major level who want to play in college, but are looking at a different career after college ends. That, however, is far from the norm.

I can't even remember how many times we've heard that from our own insiders about recruits that were supposedly ours (Goodwin being only the most recent example).

true, but this is just a message board. VIP stuff is premium. May not be any more correct, but you would think if you're paying for it, the writer must know something. I've thought all along it's UCLA and as long as Meyer stays with them, I'll assume it's them. At any rate, we're 3rd according to just about everybody. (Except on this board.:))

If you are looking at premium information, look at what Mike Pegram/Jeff Rabjohns will say on this. They are IU guys, but will be pretty accurate when information leaks, even if it is against IU.

People really need to stop making the assumption that "academics = US News Ranking"

It can mean that sometimes, but much more likely it means the level and quality of academic support provided within the team and the athletic department. That's what coaches really sell to parents and recruits. That they are going to make school a priority and provide the resources needed to make a degree a reality.

The time and focus and tutoring and effort needed to get an underwater basket weaving degree from Oklahoma State beats playing four years of football at Michigan and ending up with no NFL interest and two-plus years away from graduation with no scholarship left. THAT'S the calculation these families are making.

Seems early, but guessing KU and Miznoz are on there. Do we make the 3rd?
Hope Carteare didn't have any dreams of Billikens lately.

I'd love for Marquise to pop this weekend. I think that kid is going to be a good 'un.

I just looked at his activity on 24/7 and it seemed like miznoz was getting some recent unofficials so figured he was interested in them.

That makes sense. I just have a hard time understanding why anyone would be attracted to that dumpster fire in Columbia.

Looks like he was just retweeting people saying he was releasing a top 3 but never actually did...or at least I'm assuming that as of 10:15pm central time
