I’m not so sure that going into the spring signing period with available scholarships is a bad thing.

Assuming we aren’t touched by the FBI investigation, it stands to reason that there may be an unprecedented amount of talent available at that time, and that the playing field may be somewhat leveled.

Again, I'm only stating my feelings about our 2018 class. My opinion would be much more enthusiastic if it were about BU's entire tenure.

But what's the point in getting down about 1 class? Technically you're right, Ayo alone isn't a good class if you take it out of context.

But it makes much more sense to put it in context. Ayo, paired up with last year's class, plus some mixture of Liddell/Okoro/Whitney would make anyone feel excited about the future of UI basketball.

I feel like saying the '18 class is a failure is just someone wanting to start an argument for the sake of arguing, especially when the class isn't even finished yet.

Ayo alone isn't a great class, but Ayo being added to this team is a major get. He really gives us amazing depth at the 1-3 spots, and even allows us to play 4 actual guards if needed due to his length.

We still need a big and a SF, but like you said, our top 3 targets next year are all at positions of need. Dream is we get all 3, but the good news is each one fits a need.

As all things considered, Ayo being the only one could lead to us getting much better recruits in the spring. Illini play great, and Ayo does same, no telling what recruits will be looking. Might be able to pick the right one for each spot.;):illinois:

Any chance that all of the THT discussions can be kept to the "THT Commits" thread and we can keep this thread to stuff that really matters which is moving on and looking forward?

?? Liddell and Okoro are both '19's

yeah what he said made no sense to me either, if we get a big he needs to be able to play in 18 even if its only for 5-8 mins a game. as much as I hate the thought of going after 5th year guys, having more then 3 rides for 19 I love the idea of. BU will have something to show to these young men of his Illini team, rather then SFA or OSU.

Think after we play this season we would be able to evaluate our situation before we get too excited about a transfer. BU has said he's not to keen on using that route. Still think all that think we won't grab a big in spring are out of touch, late spring bloomers, might bring a top line big. Have wait and see.;):illinois:

Oh Im not one who wants one ever, but with where we are right now, I would be ok with it just to have 4 ships in 19 but Id much rather we find good FR to fill them and see what happens yearly. I am sure, that we will have someone leave almost yearly that isnt from graduation once we get back to having a full roster

I do think we will get a big this class

Why grad transfer want to come here in '18 to play substitute for Finke + Black?

In '19 all we have are Spicy G + Matic + freshmen. Some experience at the post is badly needed.

There is a chance that Spicy G + Matic won't be B1G caliber at all. There is also chance that Liddell and Okoro won't come. Even if they come, they may not be able to start to play B1G game the first year.

1) Most bigs have a tendency to struggle their freshman year. BU probably wants to avoid relying on them if possible.

2) Liddell is a tweener, not a big.

3) Okoro is going to most likely be recruited by almost everyone. It's going to be tough to get him.

Thanks for posting this a very good read according to this he Illini never pulled said scholly and THT did what he felt was best for him. Still think in heart he wanted to be an Illini. :illinois:

Y'all don't wanna talk about this anymore but the majority of you are softening up as Illini fans and falling for the old "save face" :lalala:

Piper said EXACTLY what happened on the radio from his heart in the hours leading up to his announcement on this now infamous "THT Day" & that's a Man that knows!

Everything coming out since only saddens me further at how filthy and foul this game can be...

Per the scholarship grid, we have 8 open offers (will not comment on whether they are committable or not, as that is way beyond my knowledge level). They are:

Simi Shittu (PF)
Tim Finke (G)
Keshaun Saunders (SG)
Courtney Ramey (PG)
Darius Garland (PG)
Elijah Weaver (PG)
Keldon Johnon (SG)
Bryan Penn-Johnson (C)

Of these, 3 are PGs whom I assume that we are not still pursuing given Ayo's commitment (feel free to comment on whether this is a bad assumption). Of the remaining 5:

Keldon Johnson is viewed as a Kentucky lean, per Kentucky recruiting site, from his top 5 of Kentucky, Texas, Maryland, Florida State and NC State

Keshaun Saunders seems to be a holdover from the prior regime (was offered in 2015) so there is no indication of current interest.

We did not make Simi Shittu's original top 10

Finke and BP-J have been discussed on this thread extensively.

Other than the foreign players, anyone else out there who folks think we are going after?

Good summary. Im not expecting anything else this fall.

If you believe Tim Finke was hurt this summer, which I do not, he could be a perfect spring pickup. Especially if he grows up to 6'8" or so.

Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Finke was either hurt or his dad is lying. Knowing Jeff Finke, I’m going to say that he was hurt.

#Illini bball rec update, ‘19 6’5” wing Kahlil Whitney: Coach Underwood & Coleman are recruiting me very hard. They see my workouts a lot.

I hope the staff didn't ease up on the gas too much over the summer and give the Finkes the wrong impression. I also feel Tim could be a great addition.

finke is listed as a guard....but he's a big guard and possibly a 4 (fletch). I'd take him, if he is still on the board in the spring.

In retrospect he probably should have taken the summer off to get healthy.
