I think he is a good project player, like maybe a better Lieb with a much higher ceiling (Tall and lanky but WAY too small to play in the B1G the first few years). Also will probably help recruit Boswell since they play together.
What if they hate each other. Tall drink of water stole Boswell's girl or something?

He does have an offer from Kansas, so that's a good sign. I don't know that a commitment is eminent just because he said Illinois is the top of the list.

Unfortunately BU can only count to ten because he only has ten fingers :( who's gonna tell this poor recruit?

What was Meyers out of HS? 220? 240?

Not a stretch at all to put 30-40 lbs on this kid in a couple of years.

So I’m curious. Did you have scholarship offers at the D2 level? What is the allure of being on a D1 team without much chance to play vs. playing D2 on scholly?
I had opportunities to play at a good D3 program (who don’t do true athletic scholarships, academic based… at least at that school) and one or two D2. But mentally I was stubborn and wanted to experience the division 1 level of basketball more than play early, apparently. Being able to travel to places like ND, Texas Tech, USF, C of C was worth it.

I ended up walking away from basketball after my freshman year and stayed at that school and had a fantastic college experience so it all worked out!

Get him on the Tisdale diet now, 7'0 185lbs
Chet Holmgren was 7'0", 190lbs coming out of high school, so he'll at least likely be bigger than that by the time he's in college. Holmgren is still a pretty alright player.

You're right, if this kid is the highest ranked recruit in the country for his class, sign him up!! /s

I've wondered this exact same thing for many many years. Makes zero sense to me why heights are so exaggerated. In high school maybe I get it, but in college it just seems silly.

I'd list Kofi at 6'9" max, and then see opponents freak out when they stand next to him.

😁
Don't forget the weight. Kofi 6'9 190lbs!!

Fascinating read in The Athletic ($) about the transfer portal and its impact on college basketball and the recruiting landscape.

Some choice nuggets:

- “It blows my mind that guys that are in good programs now that are already thinking about leaving. I don’t want to say (names), but there’s been some big-name guys. I’m like, are you crazy? I’m trying to tell them that they should stay and see how it works. (These are) dudes that are having success or five-star guys that probably aren’t playing like they thought they’re going to play, because they all want to get to the league as quick as possible. I think they think the quicker I can get to a Power 5 and get seen is the quicker I can get to the league, and if I’m not playing in the Power 5, I’m going to leave and go somewhere and play where I’m playing, so I can get to the league. It’s a !!!!ed-up cycle.”

- “If you’re a local high school kid and you get a D1 offer, you better take it. If you’re not a top 50 kid and you have an offer, take it. You wait until March and it’s not going to be there.”

- “We joke that right now, you’re better off coming in second. Let a kid go somewhere and then you’re the second choice, waiting for him to transfer.”

- “No one is going to sign 13. None. Why would you sign 13 when you can’t keep 11 happy? They’re just gonna transfer on you anyway. I had (another coach) point out to me, can you imagine 350 schools sign 11 instead of 13? That’s 700 scholarships that won’t go to high school kids.”

- “There aren’t that many real NIL opportunities in college basketball, but you’ve still got third parties telling these kids, ‘Hey come here, and I can swing a deal for you.’ Kids don’t know the difference.”

- “It’s not going to stop. I don’t see it calming down at all. Everyone wants to play right away...."

- “The days of building your roster with guys who stay four or five years? Those days are over.”

Bardo was the glue guy who typically guarded the other teams top scorer.

That was a fun team - Battle Gill Anderson Bardo Hamilton with the Smith and Liberty coming off the bench.

The ball bounces the other way on Sean Higgins air ball and we probably beat Seton Hall in the finals. View attachment 14530
You got it right. That team was electrifying.

I don't understand the 700 scholarship thing. Those 700 scholarships wouldn't have gone to highschool kids anyways, they would have been occupied by the 1-2 kids that transferred out (and now occupied by the 1-2 kids that transferred in).

We've traded transfers (Plummer for Miller, Grandison/Hutch for Griffin/Hamlin) and have benefited. This team would be in a bad spot if we didn't have Plummer/Grandison.

If we get an impact transfer and a top 50 kid a year we're a perennial top 25 team under BU.

Coaches might start banking scholarships to keep them available, akin to keeping cash on hand to jump on investment opportunities.

It's like @JFGsCoffeeMug said, coaches will bank schollies for prospective transfers who want to come in during the season, like Dainja. And like the quote alludes to, coaches don't think they can keep 13 guys happy anyway, so why keep 13 guys on scholarship at all times when the guys at the end of the bench will transfer anyway. So the idea is that coaches will only keep 11 of the 13 scholarships occupied, leaving 2 open at any given time. If every coach does that, there will be 700 unused scholarships at any given time

Even if not all coaches keep 2 scholarships open most will probably keep at least one. So, if the number of unused doesn't reach 700 it will probably be at least 500. That's still a boatload of athletes not playing D1.

This was my all time favorite Illini team....I know the 05 team made the finals and had the dramatic comeback against Arizona...but watching Bardo, Battle, Gill, Anderson, and Co. was fun.....and they didn't really have that dominate big guy (Battle was 6'6"..Hamilton & Liberty around 6'7"-6'8") in the middle.....and I think this was the team that beat Shaq and LSU in like double OT....Anderson making the half court shot to beat the Hosers in Bloomington.....destroying Mizzo in the Braggin Rights game....the best IMHO
Michigan got lucky. Battle wasn't 100% after the freak knee injury from slipping from water on the court, and Lowell was hobbled from badly spraining his ankle in the Louisville game. IMO Lowell's injury hurt us more as there was no way if healthy he wouldn't have run Terry Mills fat !!! off, just like he had in the 2 in season wins against them.
