Yeah, I’m one of those. I used to post on the Illiniboard as ALionEye, and then dropped out for a while. Now that name got hijacked by somebody else. Still lurking about, though.
Ok, so this is a truly bizarre coincidence, and I don’t know if anyone’s realized this yet…

But if you say ALionEye really fast, it sounds just. like. ILLINI!!

Crazy, amirite?!

I’ll give an ALionEye wink to that.

Pete Maravich was the most innovative and exciting basketball player l have ever seen
Hands down a magician and kept me saying how did he do that
JMHO

The Pistol did things never seen before on a court. Creativity off the charts. In a way, sort of like bringing the Harlem Globetrotters flash and artistry to the floor.

Who is someone today in a similar vein? We know. Curbelo. No, he isn't near the class of player that Maravich was. BUT... Curbelo's way of creating on-the-fly and coming up with drives and passes that make defenders look silly is in the Pete Way.

If Curbelo could come up with a reliable outside shot and learn to control some of his more undisciplined play, he would do the Maravich tradition proud.

One other thing. Both of these guys both had/have a way of making THEIR OWN teammates look silly. They dish passes out of nowhere that their teammates aren't ready for and the intended receiver looks stunned and dumbfounded as they look into their hands wondering what where they thinking when the ball arrived right on target.

I think most of us knew we would be interested, but interest confirmed.

Good to hear that our alumni seem to be stepping up. Do you how this would get paid out to Kofi? Through Opendorse or something like that? And what are the terms?
He will get paid straight from the source. Illinois will get about 170k of it and opendorse will get a % of it. Opendorse just acts as the oversight to make sure everything is by the book.

Is that how this works? The school gets a cut of all NIL money? Or is it just the way his contracts are worked out?

The last time the Illini made the tournament 3 consecutive seasons was 05-07. Crazy to think how long it took us to sustain success.
2019-20 should honestly count for these purposes … we’ve pretty much gotten 3 straight top 4 seeds and been within a game of the Big Ten title every year in that time. Amazing!

Are we interested in him or is he interested in us?
Is there a reason we're not more interested? Assume it just means the staff is convinced we have TSJ in the bag? The reaction of Kentucky media in the know to his leaving (upset) has me intrigued.

If I recall correctly most mock boards had us more like a 6-7 seed in 2019-2020, but for sure, we’ve definitely qualified for 3 straight tourneys - one of them was simply cancelled before it had a chance to be played.
