Didn't we all just live through the era where Illini fans + AD *demanded* that the admittedly average P5 bball and football coaches of the time be forced out. But then found out that the only coaches that would pick up the phone as replacements were either: using us to negotiate pay at another school or were MAC coaches with no other options.

Let's not do that again.

Josh has shown the ability to make tough calls and come up with long term plans in multiple sports. Sticking with Josh here to continue to do that. Feel no need to act as a forcing function as a fan, as much as I'd like to win a national championship in all sports every year.
We would have never gotten the infinitely superior AD AND football/basketball coaches we have now if we “learned” the lesson you’re suggesting here, though. :)

Losing a shooter from Bloomington is not a good look for Underwood. Especially to a school like Notre Dame who is starting over. This program needs shooters. It’s why he was given an early offer.
Decent list of good players out of Bloomington. Who have we ever gotten? Is Ken Gibson the best? We lost Ron Curry and Okoro. Bet others can add.

We recruit nationally as we should

Didn’t Pitino get fired for giving NIL to HS kids —oh wait, that was NL (night ladies) he was giving them
Night ladies sounds like a Nightman cover band. Ahahhhh

Certa doesn't bother me. Jaden Schutt didn't either. Small school guys routinely under perform hopes at the next level.

We had more than a couple people here thinking Schutt would portal and we could sweep in, but that notion seems to have died down.
Small school guys underperform??

You mean like Myers Leonard, Mike Tisdale, Brian Cardinal, Ethan Happ, Keita Bates-Diop, Ryan Kalbrenner, LARRY BIRD??

Always good to ask oneself before posting, is what I'm writing actually true or just an unfactual bias? Fact of the matter is there just aren't many small school players at this level.

Yeah, I didn't say all. I said routinely meaning it's common. Which it is.

Do you have names? I've seriously been thinking of recruits that were reasonably touted out of small schools and the list I provided are the only ones I can even think of. I mean a couple more obscure names went midmajor, Carlton Fay (SIU) and Shawn Jessup (ISU), a long time ago, but as I recall they also had fabulous college careers. So who has underperformed? Matt Chastain I guess.

Tevo

this is great, a whole new conference's fans are going to get a chance to hate the guy.
My daughter is a sophomore at KU right now. She texted me that Hunter is coming to KU, with smiley party emojis. I told her, "He's good. But he's also kind of a douche. Unlike a guy like Ochai, who was good and opponents would just acknowledge he's good. Hunter will have opponents booing him and hating him."

Just another reason to hate Kansas.

It’s likely those were the only ones you could think of because those were the small handful of such players who actually overachieved.

I told her, "College is over-rated. Just don't go."
For the learning aspect, I certainly agree.

And more seriously - I still agree. I believe that most students would be better off doing a 4 year, unpaid, apprenticeship.
