The Egor and Kasparas situation is extremly similar to when they went and watched a prep recruit and then found Giorgi during that game.

But....
A. can they dance?
B. can they ride a bike to class in the middle of February?
C. are they ok with never...ever...having their name spelled correctly?

I heard we backed off the 12 year old because he wanted too much NIL 😳
He wanted a guarantee he’d get a first 5 post on every recruiting topic and the 13 year olds who fight for those positions on this site every day would not agree because it would be doing the site a disservice and goes beyond just the money which is unreasonable. Self is rumored to have agreed.

They never encountered this [in March] because of their overwhelming talent, but I wonder where Hurley would've gone had they needed a bucket in crunch time.

Bringing it back to the Illini, who do ya'll think gets the ball the most during those situations?
I don't think Hurley ever set anything up for anyone, specifically. The team was the star. They all trusted each other completely. The ball moved freely, and the open man took the shot.
At this point, Boswell is the PG. The ball will be in his hands. He's got to make the right play.

Think one aspect of moving up from mid-major to the beloved is being neglected.Better trainers, strength coaches, practice facilities, coaching all play into this, but playing and practicing vs. better talent may lead to plus performance, improvement as well.
Having better teammates is also a plus on the court in games. Guys like Domask and Humrichous got a lot of defensive attention at their mid-major schools and were often tasked with taking shots that may not be particularly efficient.

I heard we backed off recruiting 12 year olds after the Jereme Richmond debacle...

Still too soon...
I remember going to the United Center game years ago and it was a big deal that he and his family were there. Still one of the biggest disappointments I have seen.
A pet theory I have long held is that if Weber weren't so desperate for the recruiting credibility that signing Richmond represented, we would have walked away from that commitment long before he ever stepped on campus. It was clear for years that he was a problem child but "Richmond decommits" was a headline Weber's tenuous hold on the job couldn't afford.

I do know from people around the program that dealing with him made that whole season a nightmare.

wouldn't doubt that for a minute.

Newton would be the "go to guy" in crunch time the few times they needed it

Right now, I think Boswell would be our guy, but Humdiddy-do could turn into that similar to Domask last year midway through the season. We'd have to see how Kasparas adjusts to college basketball before putting "go to guy" on him yet if he does come here.

When the smoke from the kitchen finally clears out, the 2024/25 Illini team will be the best team ever in our illustrious history.

I do not understand why some of the pessimism surrounding our team. TSJ is and was a great player, maybe one of the best ever at Illinois, but we will overcome his loss. Even when he missed several games, we didn’t look too shabby.

There’s going to be a culmination of five players on that court, which will make up for his play.

Comparing every position from last year to this year, I can’t believe anyone would think last year‘s team is better. We have a true center and point guard along with the great abilities of the other recruits as well as the incoming one or two mystery players to be determined.

Just sit back and watch the results of a lot of hard work and watch with great pride in next year‘s team.

Huh. I'm generally optimistic and think we have the chance to be quite good, but...

I do appreciate an extra spicy hot take now and then, though. (y)

That is the 1st highlight video I have ever seen where the person doesn't score a point. He looks like he can definitely dish it but don't we have a point guard? We need some more scoring. As in we have to replace 82 points of lost production per game. We need some dudes that can score.
