Are there any real signs JCL is considering DePaul, or is that just message board paranoia?

Paranoia? Are there actually people paranoid about where he's going? Why?
Good grief, go where you think you'll be happy. If he wasn't happy with the UI, move on. He didn't hurt anybody. Life is too short to be paranoid about where a kid transfers to play basketball. Depaul is a fine school.
Next.

Northwestern is better business school and would keep him in B10. Regardless where he goes, the transfer may give him enough time to get an MBA at his next stop..he cant lose.

Yeah, but no mention of Pumba. I think he is the real sleeper on this year's team.

Sorry, couldn't help myself...

The ole' "all you are is a star-ranking to them" argument really struck a chord for JT.

Even after he committed:

There seem to be a great many people convinced that JCL left because his HS coach lured him to DePaul. This despite the fact that there is zero evidence so far that he will transfer to DePaul.

I dont see JCL choosing Depaul despite his old hs coach being there as they are going to have a bevy of scoring wings with size in fold this year in Ed Cain,Max Strus,Austin Grandstaff all of who should still be on campus when Tyger Campbell arrives next fall .

I hope JCL chooses a place that will give him a chance to run the point as thats where his real chance at the pros starts . He takes this year off and debuts at his next destination at point .

I don't see the NBA in his future. No one short of a low end D1 school, or lower, is going to give JCL a starting PG position. He's shown zero pg skills to date. He needs to concentrate on his business degree and use basketball as a means to pay for that. Since he's already announced he's transferring, if he could get into NW or ND and use his sit year to get ahead on his studies, setting himself up for an MBA his 5th year, I think is what I'd recommend if he were my son.

Michael Finke would honestly be better suited at point guard than JCL would.

I just placed JCL in my overhyped recruit file. Its getting full.. THere is more to basketball than just being able to shoot. I don't want rip on his faults, but I don't see where this hurts the team, at all.

Unless he meant spring workouts, it is had to rank JCL behind AJ and DJ based on actual play this seasons and during their careers at UI.

I'm sure BU is doing his own evaluation. He's not going to care what guys did over their career anyway --he's looking for fit in his system, not Groce's. That would also explain the positive comments earlier about AJ.

I'd love to see him provide depth in the rotation. He seemed to be an afterthought for Groce, and if BU develops his role here, that would provide us with some rotational options. Always good to have a spark off the bench, if nothing else.

I agree I'd love to see the game slow down for AJ and see him seize the reigns with a fresh start in a new system. With JCL gone the door is wide open for and athletic wing with good range. What positive comments did BU have about AJ, I missed them?

I don't see the NBA in his future.

Sure looks that way. He's an undersized SG, so he'd have to have some other dimension to his play (combo skills or serious ability to take it to the rack) in addition to being able to defend. He's a very good shooter, but not elite, and certainly not showing enough to make up for his deficits, at least when compared to guys who make the NBA.

These were my thoughts as well. When BU talked about who on the team he liked, AJ was the only player not mentioned. Would love to hear some positive news on him.

All of these negative comments about JCL are hilarious and flat out distasteful! Some of the snobby & over-privileged members of our fan base, really crack me up! In all seriousness, some of these NBA level scouts on here should really be getting paid for their top-notch evaluations!!

All you Annie's on here should take a second to think that we just lost a top-notch sophmore with uber talent, incredible intangibles, and an integrity & character that brought about a winning attiitude off the court! Some of you want to act like we're not losing anything, but the truth is, your piss poor if you could even think that way and you make me sick!

How many of you have said anything about Leron? Huh?! There's someone who has vastly underperformed up to his ranking, and not a single person better not say different! I get so tired of people hyping up a player or seeing all the positives of a player through orange-colored glasses when he's on our team, or committed, but as soon as they're gone, you trash them and act like they were nothing!

Leron has only excelled in one area, and that's rebounding. His shot is a nice work in progress, but he did absolutely NOTHING his freshman year while JCL was setting a freshman record for 3pointers made! And I guarantee you, that if Leron had transferred and JCL had stayed, we would have a bunch of Nancy's & Annie's running around here saying how Leron was not a big loss...

So please, just knock it off!!

While I do agree without a lot of your statements on how we handle kids who do and dont commit, I dont think the effect you're describing is accurately portraying the cause.

Obviously fans are going to justify losing players as "not a big deal" and are going to overhype current/incoming guys. Especially in this case, losing JCL will be much easier for this team to mitigate compared to, sticking with your example, Leron. Heck, look at how people acted when we lost Tilmon. No point crying over spilt milk.

Also, I think the people who are bashing JCL's character or motivation are in the vast minority. Most of us understand he was a standup kid and one who took the academics part of his collegiate career seriously.

I get you know him personally and feel like he's being attacked, but I dont think most of us are trying to put him down as a person. People will always play armchair NBA scout too and a lot of the aspects of his game people point to as being weaknesses are, indeed, true. He is not an NBA caliber PG, and he lacks another elite skill other than shooting. Sadly, intangibles only get you so far in the world, and its magnified in the NBA. Nobody is going to take a one dimensional player just because hes a good guy. I still think JCL could develop into a great 3 and d player, and hes got time to prove it, but right now hes not an NBA talent.

Just out of curiousity, to what do you attribute JCL's very poor year last season?

JCL: sweetest shooting stroke since Jamar Smith. Sorry to see him go. Also sorry Jamar was shown the door back then.
