Super senior laden team.
Anymore "cleaning" to do?
Anymore "cleaning" to do?
Malcolm can.
Do advanced analytics tell what team shooting percentage is when a certain player is on the floor compared to when they are not If so, would anyone be able to find this stat for Lucas? Just seems like we shoot better when he is in the game.
Except he kept getting losing the ball trying to drive today.
Disagree with this. We take most of our jumpers in catch and shoot, not iso. I'm not a fan of this offense, as it IS overly dependent on jumpers, but that tends to be because those are the easiest shot to get, and the defense will let you take them. We are not an iso-heavy offense, however.
THIS!! College basketball is basically guard driven and ours are inferior in almost every case. Illinois hasn't head good guard play since Self left.
That's absolute BS. Paul and Richardson were a fantastic duo.
Been stalking this site for years, first post. My biggest issues is with our "leaders"on the court. Abrams constantly makes bad decisions on both ends of court. He is a sub par point guard and a slow 2 guard. He offers on help defensively against quicker players and looks at officials after reaching like he doesn't understand fouls. Hill begs for fouls and does not go strong. He looks to be bailed out instead of being aggressive. When he looks to finish instead of looking for contact he scores and gets fouled. Look at ,
Maryland they chin the rim and we don't. We fade away and drift on drives.
This has been a issue from day one with Groce teams. We need a coach and players who attack and don't hope for other team to let us win.
I love both of those guys, but they both never received higher honors than All Big Ten third team in a given season. That's not to say they wouldn't make this team significantly better, but I'm not entirely sure I agree with 'fantastic' as opposed to just being a formidable Big Ten backcourt (which ours currently is not)
It is pretty simple, the Illini lack the ability to consistently take the ball to the basket. They are a jump shooting team. That includes 3s and the midrange. When those fall like Michigan we look great. If so fall like the first half we look fine. When they don't it is easy to double the post and watch us miss. We lack the ability to create off the dribble which limits us. It basically means this team will be up and down offensively.
Richardson, Paul and Egwu were all tough minded, killer instinct type of leaders.
I feel sorry for Tracy, he came in on fire and looked like he was going to be a difference maker. I just wonder if he is getting worn down by by having no faith in the system anymore. It probably takes a toll on a man who has worked so hard to get back to the game.
Also, why does 9-9 get mentioned on here so frequently? 9-9 is not a good season this year in the B1G. I was hoping hard we could find a way to get to 11-7, but this was a game we REALLY needed in order for that to happen.
So Groce has worn TA down? Not the major injuries he is fighting back from?
Given our recent (and not-so-recent anymore) history, 9-9 feels like it's something to aspire to at this point. 11-7 seems like a fantasy. How far we've fallen.
I thought they were sagging off TJL and daring him to shoot. He's going to have to start taking them.
How about he play TJL,Nichols,DJW,Black, and Morgan and send a message either gets your heads together or be ready to come and sit next to me ,Tate ,and Mike
Both Tejon and Kipper were abysmal defensively too.

I've been a hollow fan since post-2008, but 2014 is when it really sunk in how depressing this really is.
Did you watch the game?
You want to critique someone, try TA, JCL, and MH. I'm not sure I've ever seen more a more awkward, forced, borderline pitiful display from three supposedly experienced players, as they displayed the last minutes of the first half and the entire second half.
TJL is the ONLY true point guard on this team.... And anyone with half a brain knows it!!
Why wouldn't you critique everyone? :noidea:
Only 10 players played today, feels like we have enough time to evaluate everyone's play.
TJL would benefit greatly from developing a 3-point shot. His inability to shoot from deep is going to be a serious detriment to his game.
