I’d like to see our traditional O/B/O uniform for Homecoming. And I want to see #3 cross the goal line multiple times.
I have sort of gone away from my "uniform convictions" after seeing the blue pants at home and thinking it looked cool, but I still agree with this. This probably would have been my preferred "default" uniform schedule for this year, keeping a super consistent look but still having a few "special" games:
vs. Toledo:
O/B/O (default home)
at Kansas:
O/W/B (navy pants on the road for a "big game")
vs. #7 Penn State:
O/O/W ("Orange Out" uniform and our special use of the white pants)
vs. FAU:
O/B/O (default home)
at Purdue:
O/W/O (default road)
vs. Nebraska:
O/B/B (navy pants for night games!)
at Maryland:
O/W/O (default road)
vs. Wisconsin:
O/B/O (default home for Homecoming)
at Minnesota:
O/W/O (default road)
vs. Indiana:
O/B/O (default home)
at Iowa:
O/W/B (navy pants on the road for a "big game")
vs. Northwestern:
O/B/O (default home)
My (apparently ever-changing...) guiding principles:
- "Special" uniforms should be, well ... special. An orange jersey should be worn once per year, not randomly - either for an "orange out" or (as I have previously wished for) as a special jersey only vs. Mizzou since it always works with their colors, home or away. Pick a combo at home and on the road and stick with them unless it is in some way a unique game.
- For example, if you stick with
O/B/O at home, maybe only bust out the
O/B/B for a night game since it will look cool under the lights?
- On a similar note, while I would LOVE navy pants on the road as the default, I understand that is unlikely to happen. So, stick with
O/W/O as the default, and only bust out the
O/W/B combo 1-2 times per year for an especially big game. If navy pants on the road are the norm, then flip it and only reserve the orange pants for the biggies. I think I am (possibly?) in the minority here, but I say retire the white pants with the white jerseys if there is no white helmet.
I understand that a lot of fans will not agree, and it appears entirely evident that the players/recruits do not ... and that is fine, because they're the ones that matter! However, I am personally just not a fan of the Beckman/Lovie routine of randomly switching jersey combos each week on a whim. "It's the small things" and all, but I kind of like how Michigan, Iowa, OSU, etc. fans only get to see a variation of their jerseys on rare occasions and it thus seems like a bigger deal.
