It’s going to be another first weekend exit from the Dance as long as this poor 3 point shooting continues.
Only Terps and Gophers shoot it worse from 3 in the BIG Ten than us. Again, we had a poor shooting night from 3 ... 7 of 27 for 26%. We were much better in TO's with only 8. But we were dead last in the league coming into tonight averaging 13.6 per game.

Being inconsistent in these 2 areas will make for an early exit in the tournament. We have shown we can play great, but not over a several game period.

Put me in with those who liked a lot of things about the way this team played tonight. FTs, turnovers, shooting, rebounding (which was a plus but no surprise and maybe not big enough), and scoring balance were all plus factors....all negated by Pickett and a hot bunch of shooters. The big question now is how does BU (and the Illini team) keep the same kind of thing from happening in Bloomington, Indiana on Sat. Can they find a way to keep TJD from a Pickett like performance? Highly unlikely at the moment. But this is B1G basketball and nothing is predictable.
I love my team, but I have zero optimism against Indiana. Just praying we can win a few down the road and get in the dance.

Epps is 4-30 his last 7 games. TSJ is under 30% behind the arc minus the UCLA game. And Hawkins is 28% on the season. No reason those guys are shooting 12+ a game amongst them (or close to that #). Especially when Epps and TSJ can play downhill so well.
Who should shoot ‘em? Epps does not turn it over! Who should shoot ‘em? We must take open looks! They would not get driving lanes with out the threat of shooting threes man! You can make anyone look bad when you manipulate stats. Epps is a good shooter and is learning and TSJ is taking less poor shots as is Hawkins
RJ can’t throw it in the ocean right now. Our best shooter is Mayer and hopefully Godde and those you don’t wanna shoot will step up. If they don’t you can forget it but lighten up on Epps. He has been huge for us and has hit key shots and FTsthat win games. He didn’t hit his threes but if he has zero turnovers like he has often I’ll take it.

Agree. I’m actually fairly positive after this one.

We played a tournament quality team in an absolute must win to save their season on their floor where they are now 12-2 and a 5th year all American had a transcendent game. Similar to IU except we were at home obviously. Not sure anyone was winning in there tonight. It happens. Especially in CBB this year.

Our defense definitely could have been better, I probably give us a C, but for the most part we fought until the end. Ty was sensational. Coleman remained assertive offensively. Dain I thought did a really good job guarding in space. After giving up 10 23’s in the first half we tightened up and only allowed 2 in the second half. And both Luke and RJ hit a 3. For RJ that was maybe the best looking shot he’s had in a month. Didn’t think and just let it fly.

If we compete like we did tonight we will have a chance to win every game, including in the tournament. Guys aren’t going to hit contested step back 2 pointers for a full 40 minutes maybe ever again this year.

Once the game was out of hand we resorted to chucking too many 3’s but overall still think we are trending in the right direction. Let’s go beat Indiana.

Good to see Goode get some more playing time and hit a 3. However, don't think we should expect much help from him this year. Not moving that well in this fast paced game and didn't seem to want to put the ball on the floor the couple times he had the opportunity. We will see though....

This is not personal but the absolute lack of adjustments is abhorrent. Underwood owns this loss. How can this be a carbon copy of what happened in Champaign? I don’t think he knows how to stop Pickett. Hate to say it but TJD has his stage set too.
He’s a really good coach as far as building a program goes. But he isn’t a good tactician. You see that weakness exploited in the tournament.

I realize we were flat. And we just couldn’t guard the 3 (again). I have no clue why we keep letting individual players have the game of their life. And, once again, we gave a team confidence early and they couldn’t miss the rest of the night….

But man. Why do B$G Ten refs feel the need to impact the game so much? Isn’t the point to not affect the outcome? The inconsistent foul calls are infuriating. The automatic goal tends on anything close. The travel calls because something looked different. Etc. I know this board hates on anyone that complains about the refs. But I can’t stand seeing runs (and games) affected by bad calls.

I think our guys played pretty well. I thought the effort was there on defense, and offensively was pretty predictable for playing a pretty bad defensive penn st team. The same could be said for the loss at Iowa and the loss at home to Indiana. What do all three of our current losses have in common? The inability of the coaching staff to adjust to an opposing player going off. Jackson Davis with a career high 35 points, Perkins with a career high 32 points and tonight's 41 points a by Pickett which was his career high while at Penn St.

#Illini HC Brad Underwood on the #Illini defense: "When you don’t play very hard...we didn’t put up fight on the defensive end. They exploited us. You have to communicate to be a good defensive team. It’s just one of those deals. We’re not mature enough to handle this."

This late in the season?

I missed the game thank goodness, so just looking at the stats here. Anytime we shoot close to 30 3’s our chances of winning are low. We shot 27 at a 25% clip. We shot 65% from 2.

Say what you will, but damn we are slow learners on this obvious point.

Effort was horrible on defense to start the game. You can’t go under screens while guarding Pickett. We let him get hot and he stayed hot. Too often we got out of position and let wide open 3 point shooters get shots off. Once we tried to tighten up after getting 14 down it was too late. Give up 50 in a half you aren’t going to win many games. We have to get better at playing defense from the very start.

Anyone saying that this game against PSU was "just like" the game in December didn't watch at least 1 of those games. The game at SFC we were flat, uninspired, and going through the motions. An all around putrid effort.

Tonight we put up 81 points, showed a lot of hustle and absolutely no quit, but got torched by a guy having a career night. Yes, it sucks to lose, but we didn't beat ourselves tonight like we did in December.

Need help, missed watching the game and see the results. Also see Ty went off. How bad was it? Am I going to be depressed watching?
Bad. Yes, unless you are a PSU fan
