Bingo. Actually you can go back another 20 years. We have been bad at 3rd down defense for most of the last 40 years.

It might not seem so given that they’ve struggled this year, but the Pat Bryant game at Rutgers was one of these. That game was essentially a play-in for the Citrus Bowl, which would have been the biggest bowl in school history for RU. Pregame win probability was 52-48. Hopefully, the same happy result.Every long term rebuild that end up successful have these watershed moment type of games. I'm sure some Wiscy fans can still quote certain games from the 90's where they "proved" their arrival.
It's not just pulling upsets against the name brands, it's winning on the road against a team that appears to be your equal. This game has a bit of that feel to me. Win & set up a potential for meaningful football in early December as well as raising the stature of the program.
A loss isn't a killer but a win could be one we look back fondly on years from now as one of those days where we established ourselves as a legit big boy in the upper third of the league. Bret's done great work & this is the next milestone. Winning the big games on the road when there is a lot at stake. Wisconsin & Iowa built a whole lot of their long term success over the last 25 years on consistently winning these type of games.
I really like us coming off a bye. Bret & crew has shown consistent good work on a bye or a long break the last couple years. Even the Citrus Bowl, we implemented some things that we used to success in that game with time to self scout & make some tweaks to what we do.

That was a similar game. Only different factors are we have "higher stakes" involved this year & Washington is more of a name brand program. It might not seem so given that they’ve struggled this year, but the Pat Bryant game at Rutgers was one of these. As far as playoff chances and national perception, what happened in Bloomington essentially counted as two losses. Here's our chance to get one back. With a few exceptions, most of the sites I have been on do not give us a chance. Altmyer is overrated, We do not have a good run game. Our defense is to porous. Etc. I love it. We are being disrespected big time and I think we play ourselves into a WIN here. Huskies fans are going to go home disappointed on Saturday.
I would assume the playoff committee looks past the superficial rankings, which would correct for the bias? All the other conference representatives would realize how outrageous it is.This is why the false perception that the SEC is the tougher conference matters. It means their conference wins and rank are considered superior, despite the SEC’s inferior head-to-head performance against the Big Ten in the NIL era.
You can say that for about 40 or so years too . . .I was there to witness us losing that game 52-14. 1971 was not a good year for Illinois football.

Illinois hasn't had more than 1 on the road flop in any year under Bielema. This game should at least be close and I like the experience Illinois has over Washington down the stretch.you need to change the sites you are on
Im not saying to be on all O&B homer sites, but we have a legit chance to win this game.
Likely? no but real chance to win
But let’s be clear: Paducah is figuratively higher than bothI think you're referring to a different form of elevation. Champaign is higher than Seattle
Waa in Seattle until today (thought about going to the game but it didn't fit the schedule) and my flight from Indy Saturday had a few illini as wellMy wife just text me from her plane leaving ORD for Seattle. She said it is packed with Illini fans! She is going on up to the most northwest part, but I will in my orange and blue cheering the Illini on from home. Let's hope all the traveling Illini fans make LOTS of noise and have allot to cheer for. GO ILLINI!!!
Great point. BB's road kills are pretty incredible. An extra week to prepare as well.Illinois hasn't had more than 1 on the road flop in any year under Bielema. This game should at least be close and I like the experience Illinois has over Washington down the stretch.
Hopefully SEATAC traffic wasn’t too bad. It can be pretty awful sometimes.
I think it is insane if anyone watch us and Washington Play and know what we have been without in our secondary vs IU. IU is the best team on our conference and likely the conference. We are on par with OSU and we moved the ball. We can not turn it over 3 or 4 times and expect to win but I want to play OSU again. I think we are between 2 and 5 in the conference is we play clean game. If we do that we beat Washington by 2 tds
