Tyler Kolek vs TSJ should be a great matchup. Kam Jones will be the problem. Ty needs a great defensive game to stop him but if he does we will win. A game where it would have been great to have Buck, not as confident in Justin. Really think we have advantage in front court.

I really enjoyed the game in Milwaukee a couple seasons ago, in spite of the IL loss. Wish this was a matchup we’d see more often. Good luck the rest of the season, except on Tuesday. Keep posting til then, it’s fun to have rival fans on here.

I wish played more often as well.

Most of my friends from Marquette (and myself) grew up in Illinois, returned to Illinois, and are still season ticket holders today. So we all know lots of Illini fans. It’s a lot more fun to talk trash to each other when the teams actually play each other haha.

We have a home-and-home series with Notre Dame ending this year. While they are a rival of ours, I think they are going to have a few upcoming down years. I wouldn’t mind a home-and-home with you guys for a few years.

I'm not at all worried about Kolek. Kam Jones is the type of guy who can drop 30 on us and he's really one of the elite shooters in the country and makes tough twos also. Gonna need Terrance to chase him around.

Marquette fan here making the trip down from Rockford. Any bar/restaurant recommendations for before or after the game?
In addition to Black Dog, Maize and the other more casual restaurants, Nando Milano in Downtown Champaign is fantastic Italian. Cool area, great atmosphere and amazing food. I still have not found an Italian place in Chicago that I very clearly prefer to Nando.

As far as just getting a beer, I never miss out on a drink at Blind Pig Brewery downtown (note - be careful, as there are two and the one that ends in "Brewery" has a really cool beer garden/patio area).

Back to the game, I am really nervous and excited for this one. Obviously Marquette is an experienced top 5 team, and there is zero shame in a loss here, even at home. However, in order to carry sufficient momentum into the Big Ten season, I fear a loss to Marquette makes a game like at Rutgers a must win ... and I do NOT want that. This would be a huge statement win for this team, let's get it!

Paducah, Ky
Excellent presser again by BU.............He always has a positive approach to these pregame conversations and gives a rundown of the next opponent that I dwell on as the game approaches.............

We are so lucky to have excellent orators in MBB , WBB and FB that can let us fans in on some of the complexities of the next game in their sport that brings me closer to understanding what is before us and how difficult the game is going to be and what , as fans, to look out for by the opponent's scheme's...............

I believe it has been stated before , but do I understand that Marquette plays a full court press the whole game like Shaka did at VCU ??

The problem is that the two wings that are the best shooters are very slow to get their shots off from the perimeter (Domask and Goode). Both can hit a high % when left open, but any coach and team worth a nickel will press on them and close out hard and both seem to give the ball up when that happens. Neither is effective at getting to the 10-15 foot range and getting up a quick 2 either, which they can bury at a pretty high clip and with their height, should be. There is a downside to being "unselfish" when you can help your team by scoring. Domask loves the 10 ft fade but that doesn't happen often. Goode only seems to shoot when the defense is waiting for him to shoot. CoHawk and TSjr are taking more 10 footers this season but should double their numbers which will help the team as they can both hit 60% from 8-12 ft.

If AH and QG can hit shots when open, I have no problem with them shooting, but 25% from the arc is a no-no. I think they can both do 35% or better if they are open. Making opponents choose between covering a good stretch 4 shooter and opening up the middle to CoHawk and DD should be an early game test every night. Not sure AH will get enough time to be a consistent shooter, but he sure seems to be able to score from anywhere though we have not seen him shoot jumpers in the paint yet. Hope that is coming.
Domask has been a good shooter for 4 years at SIU while being the primary defensive focus.

He can get his shot off but he needs to settle in and probably start looking to hunt his shot a bit more.

I see this being a tough matchup for us. Size (we have that), athleticism (we have that), cohesiveness (jury still out on this). We start cold from 3, they get out to a 12-point lead at half, we make a valiant effort to comeback, the SFC gets rockin', but we just fall short.

Marquette: 73
Illini: 69
😔 - I hope I'm wrong!

Hot take(s): Leading the Illini in scoring, Domask scores 17, hitting back-to-back 3's in the second half during a rally. Co-Hawk's body language is bad.

No shame at all in a loss, but we will be favored here. This game is important.

The last time that we beat them in CU we were still playing in Huff.

Noticed that we’re 1.5 point favorites. Means as much as a Thursday night NFL game, but ayyy. Lol

Last top 5 opponent in SFC was Michigan and Kofi’s ref punch game, no? No research. Just my brain lol.
He said non-con. I do believe that is the last game including conference that we won at home against a top 5 team

So even worse lol
lol I'll rephrase for clarity.

Last time a top 5 ranked non-conference opponent played us on our home court was in 2004 when #1 ranked Wake Forest visited.

We won that game. Handily. It was fun.

It is a rare opportunity to get to play a top 5 non-con opponent on your home floor.

Hopefully it is half as enjoyable tomorrow as it was 19 years ago.

I hope so as well, especially because that’s a long time to not have a win like that at home
