This is a message to everybody, but I am just quoting you since it came to mind after reading your comment.

Can we please refrain from using people's names? I don't believe anyone on this forum would use that information in any negative manner, but there are people on the internet who would, and I think doing our best to protect the identities of the people involved is important.
Don't use the public officials names in the name of privacy?

Is it possible that ICON continued to direct dollars to him? Did the DIA inform ICON?
I think the UofI’s hands were tied. He had not been arrested or charged. That fact it took 3 months I have no clue about not an attorney. If they did not play him or cut him so to speak based on an allegation does he have a case against the school for civil rights, loss of income, ect. What if it was never charged?
There was also no way the UofI could make this public knowledge that would have potentially lead to some form of charge by TSJ against the university for making a statement with no charges filed. This whole think just stinks for everyone.

This is such an Illinois basketball thing to happen. Just as we're on an upswing, something happens to derail the season. I am not understanding why Whitman and Underwood didn't just indefinitely suspend him before the season began if there were allegations swirling. Did they not do their own internal investigation into the matter? This seems so off to me
🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ You all realize Josh has a law degree right?

Because the DIA was likely told in September only that they were investigating Terrance and not for what specifically.

What can you do at that point? You stick by your guy if he says he is innocent and wait for more for info.
But, they came out with that 9 minute day in the life video a couple weeks ago. This was basically highlighting and spotlighting TSJ in an extremely positive light. If they knew that there were allegations, why would they spotlight someone under a potential microscope like this? I'm sorry, but this is all very off to me. Either Illinois DIA social media team and the entire DIA are completely oblivious and reckless in their thought process of putting such a video out or maybe TSJ is being targeted by the alleged victim as an extortion plot and the DOA knows this and has stuck by TSJ

You may or may not know this, but being unrelated to the case itself, I feel comfortable asking. To avoid all of the suspicions and inquiries, why is JW waiting until tomorrow night before the game to address the media? Seems odd to let the media run amok, then drop the presser in right before tip?
Well, with TSJ being formally charged and arrested then wouldn't his attorney have access to any additional information on the case?
I think waiting to gather all the information JW can before a presser is smart.

Only way TSJ plays in the O&B again are if the charges are dropped. If a “settlement” is reached that smells of guilt and idk how the university handles that.

Alcohol can influence people in the worst ways, assuming that was involved…but I just can’t believe he would do that. Especially at this point in his life. Wake me up from yet another Illini nightmare

Obviously things don’t work out perfectly for ANYONE 100% of the time, but I have yet to see Whitman not seem to be 110% prepared at all times. I trust him.

It’s gonna be a very carefully worded and carefully thought out presser. Better to get everything in order than just throw yourself in front of cameras and a microphone. Josh is also meeting with TJ.

Devastating news for a lot of reasons. I would like to think that most of us (all of us?) recognize this is bigger than basketball. People’s lives have been ruined regardless of the truth, and I’m sure that isn’t lost on a vast majority of us.

But we are all here for one reason, and while we know our favorite players aren’t superheroes that we can count on to be bastion of good, this is a tough pill to swallow. The holidays can be a rough time for a lot of us, for a myriad of reasons, myself included. And while we limp to the finish line of this cursed season (bah humbug), this is literally painful to me and I’m sure I’m not alone. No matter what else was going on, it was always nice to have that little bit of light in the back of my mind knowing that our next game was x days away. Hell, I had the Purdue game circled on my calendar weeks ago. It’s ok for us to feel like crap about this from a basketball perspective. It doesn’t mean we are discounting any potential victim’s suffering or elevating ours over theirs. It’s not a contest. Others suffering more than us doesn’t completely invalidate our own. Anyone that’s on this board probably puts an unhealthy amount of energy into this team, and this was the year it was supposed to pay dividends. Just a week ago I thought to myself how a TSJ injury might be the worst thing that could happen. Well… it’s humbling to see how wrong I can be.

Whether TSJ is a victim or someone else is, I ultimately hope justice is served, regardless of how it affects my team. But man, we were watching something special, and it sucks how that’s in serious jeopardy. I wouldn’t want the university or DIA to look the other way on this for the sake of wins. I just wish it wasn’t something that happened or potentially happened.

I hope the team is able to come back from this and it can still be a special season, however unlikely that may be. This sucks for us, and it’s ok to admit it. And it should go without saying, but I hope whoever the victim(s) might be in this situation, I hope they are given a path towards healing whatever that looks like.

If everyone deserves to be assumed innocent until proven guilty then why suspend him? If he is guilty, then that will bring consequences. If he is innocent, the suspension will be punishment for something he didn't do.
Same reason a lot of companies put people on paid/unpaid leave during criminal charges. Every credible university will operate in this manner

Will say this …. Friday night news stories typically are done at that time so it isn’t the story after the weekend … meaning … probably not going to be good. If Shannon is booted from the team tomorrow night, this thing starts to look real real scary for him from an outside point of view. If he remains indefinitely suspended, there might be hope and evidence to suggest that he is truly innocent. Either way, lot more info will be given/leaked in the next 24-48 hours i bet.

Do you think Josh Whitman and the Illinois Athletic Department has evidence in this case? That would be a huge problem if true.

Based on your experience, is there any evidence that the DA is likely to have before charging someone like DNA, video evidence, a witness, etc?
The fact the incident happened back in September and charges were just now issued is not uncommon. Sometimes it can take weeks, if not months, until lab work is completed, which includes DNA evidence. Many times, multiple witnesses need to be interviewed by law enforcement. Don't be fooled by what you see on CSI or Law & Order. Even though it is possible to obtain DNA evidence, it is not nearly as common as one would think or by what is seen on the TV shows. I hope law enforcement did a very thorough investigation. I also hope the prosecutor's office did a thorough review of the evidence. Since Lawrence is a college town, the police and prosecutors involved should have experience with sexual assault investigations. From my experience in these types of cases, alcohol and or drug use is involved quite frequently. Again, I know nothing about the facts of the case and have no inside information whatsoever. I'm just explaining what I have seen through years of handling these types of cases. I'm sure we will find out more information about the facts of the matter in the days to come.

is Underwood gonna be involved with the presser too or is it just Whitman?

Well said. I know I speak for more than just myself on this board in saying that you are not alone in turning to Illini basketball as an escape from some of life’s more challenging realities.

I’d like to think this board itself provides that outlet, even when the team is disappointing. Sometimes it’s nice to have a shared passion to discuss with folks who aren’t interested or asking about the things we don’t want to think about.

I guess what I’m saying is, you’re right it sucks. But we’ve got your back. And hell, NW beat Purdue, so keep that thing circled.

Stop with that. I have the utmost confidence we aren’t going anywhere.

Brad has reloaded too many times for this to spell the end for him.

Could be lots of twists & turns, or evidence that we are not aware of, conversations had, or what it may be.

There’s lots of ways the event couldn’t unfolded in terms of information shared or withheld from each party…

The University was aware of an “investigation” but did the University know specifically what it was about?

Did Terrence notify Brad/Josh/his teammates about this information? Or elaborate on the investigation with them?

What conversations, if any, have Josh or Brad had with Terrence about this situation, if any?

What relation did Terrence have with the victim? Do they have relationship history? Who was Terrence with?

Just so much that could’ve happened/has happened that effects how the university or the team or josh handles this… and the development of how information was shared matters in how the situation was dealt with.

Hope for the best.

Facts will eventually settle this. I guess. I hope. TSJ seemed like a good guy and what a guy to watch on the court. Hope none of this is true as he was my favorite player since Ayo. I just don't see him suiting up again in college basketball. Hope I'm wrong.

Paducah, Ky
Douglas County Kansas DA running for reelection.

I recommend reading a little about this DA. Here is just a recent tidbit 👀

Donovan said the judges try to avoid meeting with Valdez alone. They prefer to have all communication with her in writing because they’re worried that their words will get twisted.
---------------------------------------------------------------
This struck me as somewhat telling as far as to the personality of this D.A. ...........................The people she works with don't trust her or want to be alone with her.........................With what she personally is going through , maybe bring attention elsewhere to change the narrative......This is just my personal opinion as we have all seen things in sports that defy logic......for me , this is another example of that.....I have a hard time believing this is true , especially with all the people who know TSJ talking about how great a man he is.......

Now this has little bearing on if TSJ is innocent or guilty , but I still subscribe to the premise that I have heard all my life....

" Innocent until proven guilty "

I despise any type of violence against women as that is the cowards way out to assault someone because of a dispute or a sexual situation gone bad........

I had a nap this afternoon of about 3 1/2 hours as I haven't been sleeping good lately and this news has taken away my great feelings of this Holiday Season..............I feel bad for all involved and can't really believe TSJ is guilty of this charge.......

Whether he plays again this season is beside the point......What this does to affect his future is the real dilemma......This will cause shade on him even if found innocent.......I feel bad for everyone , but feel moreso for TSJ , at least until the outcome of this situation is resolved......

I'm putting my faith in all things Illini , from the A.D. to the coaching staff , to the players and of course to TSJ........

I really really really really am........JMHO..........

Only a problem if they had the evidence prior to his arrest. If they just got it after he was arrested then I think Sky is right on. TJS booted real problems for him, remains suspended and it is up in the air. I really believe that this is what Blife described - regret/understanding after the fact. There just is zero chance he leaves Lawrence without being arrested if there was any “overwhelming” evidence of forcible rape. I have no idea how long is normal to bring charges in cases like this, but it sure seems like he said she said. Whitman is probably waiting a few hours extra just to make sure nothing pops up that he was unaware of prior to whatever he was told in September. It could think about it? Maybe 3 months is along time, but new evidence surfaced that made the DA in KS want to pursue the case, and maybe Whitman had or has no idea of that yet?

I have been watching Illini sports for 60+ years now, and the only thing I can say is that I doubt TSJ plays another college game. He really has much more important things to address now than playing basketball for Illinois. Sad, for everyone fans, victims, teammates, just everyone.

This thread is getting locked soon methinks...
Actually, given the topic and after the initial jolt of the news, it's been ok. I don't think that anyone knows what to say. This came out of absolutely nowhere and involves a guy who has been nothing but a positive role model and great ambassador for the school. It's shocking. Have to allow for some leeway for reactions. This is tame compared to our game threads!

Ok. But you implied that the Friday press conference was going to tell us something based on whether or not TSJ is kicked off the team.

They obviously would know what the accusation is. And they would have interviewed TSJ. Beyond that it is highly doubtful they know anything. The DA is not going to give them any information. I doubt TSJ's attorney even knows what all the evidence is at this point.

And they are going to kick TSJ off the team based on any of the above? I say no. Suspension until the court system plays this out.
