Bless you, but that is not better.
Way behind but just saw your signature Kam, freaking amazing.

If you're not interested, that's fine, but you're not the only person on this board, and I was replying to the directly to the original poster. There are plenty of post to read hear that have nothing to do with editing the shield. Read the posts from all the fan boysCan we please stop?
I'm sure we all appreciate the enthusiasm, but let's not waste time adding piggybacked fodder to help unravel the new brand in its infancy?
Can't decide which one I want to go with...
This one?

Also, I asked if anyone else would like to see white stripes on the blue or orange football pants and no one answered. Do you have thoughts on that topic?
No, just group psychology. If that logo had been presented by someone on this forum as an idea last week most on here would have ripped it as idiotic. But once it is OUR logo, then all the emotion swings in and most of the really rabid fans rally behind the team. Most on here would have supported anything Nike came up with. The same thing happens when someone buys a house. When they are looking at houses, there is a ton of criticism and doubt. But once they buy the house, most people develop an incredible emotional bond with their house, are convinced they made a great buy, and can't see the flaws.
Just look at the rationalization for the logo? Straight lines of unequal length are columns? Two F's? Really? C'mon, no one not caught up in an emotional frenzy would buy that.
I'm a perfectionist, and I think attention to detail matters—even when it doesn't matter. Which is every bit as confusing as it sounds. But basically, I think if you take shortcuts in some places just because you can get away with it, might you not do it somewhere that you end up not being able to get away with it?
Additionally, I do think there's the potential for some of the stuff I'm bothered by to have a noticeable impact. Not now, but down the line. Remember the whole reason we're doing this is because of how fragmented our brand had become.
Starting off with a fresh brand that already shows big signs of fragmentation and inconsistency may lead us back there quicker than we'd like. Fonts and logos are the piece that is relatively consistent, and in the case of the fonts, I'm afraid they'll be dated quickly.
So I guess I'm saying that I think some of those "little" things I'm complaining about have real potential to become real problems down the line.
But to your point, I'll admit there are other times I'm complaining about the littlest things that could never change and never matter, but it would still drive me nuts. Can't help it. I'm a perfectionist and I've got an eye for that stuff and I don't know. Just can't unsee it. An example of this would be things like LSU's or Auburn's "classic" uniforms. People love them, they may never change to any real degree, but the striping from element to element doesn't match. It never has and never will cost them fans, recruits, sales or anything else. But it just breaks a fundamental design principal and drives me nuts.
It's like the burnt out bulb in the room that has 4 other lamps. Doesn't matter. But it's irritating if you notice.

There's nothing wrong with disliking something just for the sake of disliking it. People like what they like.
There is something wrong with thinking the only reason a person could like/dislike something is because they have some sort of flaw (e.g. "they just don't understand design" or "they're just so needy they'd like anything Nike gave them").
Hahahaha.I like the shield, but I like meat too.
Just a quick rendering, but something like this.

Had to throw the shield on there.![]()

That was just a tongue-in-cheek jab at the many inconsistencies within this brand despite that being their biggest talking point leading up to it.
But the inspiration (too strong of a word) for the joke was that Nike named it the "Victory Badge" official but apparently called it a "shield" last night.
If only the internal design staff was involved, this utter embarrassment to the university could've been avoided. To call the embroidered shield patch a badge?!?! Blasphemy! It's like peeing on the grave of Red Grange.
Are you kidding me? We have one of the most cynical fan bases on Earth. I do not subscribe to the "You could have made up anything and we would have loved it" line of thinking. We would have ridiculed anything we had not actually been able to embrace.
I completely disagree with you on this point. I think there would have been adulation for anything that was released. This is supported by the fact that any skepticism leading up to the release was mocked.
We were starved for a logo. No one liked what we had and by default, anything was going to be better. Maybe I'm cynical because I think the shield is bulky and ugly. I don't have any specific design critiques of the logo like GHD and STL have, but I don't like it. For reasons that are not clear to me, it is ugly.
Further, I believe that many who were on the fence regarding the logo when they first looked at it were drawn in by the enthusiasm of posters like Matt. That's fine. But if you don't think that is reality, you should pick up a book on the physiological bases of psychology.
One could easily argue that I'm just a contrarian. That is a reasonable position. I stepped away yesterday and did not look at the logo. I looked at it today hoping to like it. I would love to like my alma mater's logo. But no, I still think it's horrible.
And it's all OK. You guys are all welcome to like a logo, that like GHD I think you would laugh at had it been brought out by Iowa, Indiana, or any other school. And I don't even think it's bad that the reason people love it is because it's ours. That's perfectly reasonable. That's great in fact.

on our jerseys?I'm not wild about the logo either, but I'm not losing any sleep over it. I'm not sure we were "starved" for anything, but that's just me.I completely disagree with you on this point. I think the overall reaction here to the roll out has been much more positive than I would have anticipated given what I felt was a lot of negative "pre-reaction" on this board, but that may have been just some posters posting more about it. If there has been a positive reaction to it, maybe the "fact" is that people just like it. To suggest that there would be adulation for anything that was released strains credulity.
Our "logo"illinois
barely changed at all and people like it.
Is it really going to be that hard on you to have to see that 2" patchon our jerseys?
