I'm not so sure they got it wrong. I went back to page 1 of this thread and looked at the helmets on the players and it looks like the "I" is at the same angle. I do understand the problem from last year where the I was at a weird angle when the players actually had the helmets on, but I can't tell if this is right or not.

As long as we're talking about this, here's another one that has driven me crazy for years. On the team recruiting rankings, Rivals.com uses a weird customized imaging system where all the logos have a weird texture and are zoomed it. I see why they do it, it looks terrible for everyone, whatever. But that's not the issue. The issue is that every single other FBS football team has their official logo used except us. (FSU hasn't been updated yet, FWIW)
Look at this monstrosity:
What the hell is that? Where did that come from? How can our SID's look at that every time they go on a recruit's Rivals page (which, like most of us, must be all the time) and not do something about it?
I remembered you posted this when I was skimming through an old Illini book by Jim Turpin (at Kam's of all places).
I saw a picture from the 1950s (I think) of a guy wearing a shirt with that exact logo on it. It's a hideous logo for sure, but it must have been popular at some point in our history.
It bothers me that the orange helmets have a white I. I know it is that way to match the numbers that are white on the home and alternate jerseys, but everything else I have seen from this rebrand that features an I on an orange background shows a navy I. Also, the navy helmet doesn't follow this rule of having the color of the I match the white numbers. I thought at the unveil there was something slightly off with them and this is it for me. Maybe I'm the only one bothered by this but that's my .02.

That's true - it will definitely look good matched with white pants. A white I just looks strange to me on orange, probably because we've never used that unless it was the circle I logo.

So let me get this straight.. There is enough money in the budget to redo the Ubben court and add new logos to the football facility (both of which very few people will see) but we don't have enough money to change the block I at the 50 yard like of the football field (an area many people will see)? That makes no sense at all
I'm guessing recruits, recruits, recruits. Part of the whole reason behind the re-brand was for recruiting purposes, so it makes sense to make the team's areas the most up-to-date they can be I would think.

Repainting a basketball court or a door is chump change compared to the cost of laying down new artificial turf.

They use temporary paint for the endzones. It doesn't look as good as the colored turf, but it doesn't look horrible.

I've come to believe that there is a subliminal movement to use the shield as the replacement of the chief. In time, over decades I believe, the shield will morf into the old chief headress and once again the true spirit of the UI will return.
At least that's what I'll choose to believe until I'm dead. Since I'm getting closer by the day, no one will be able to prove me wrong while I'm still taking nourishment and breathing air.

In football, yes. In basketball, not so much. The team shield thing apparently fits better into the whole lasagna thing.

Yes, but it's used at the 50 yard line and other high traffic areas on a lot of fields. It just has to be occasionally touched up. Whenever you see a logo on a football field, but can still see the yard lines underneath it, that's temporary paint.

Football recruits hate how that white shield border disappears into the white wall though.
I know what recruits are influenced by, and it ain't the new logos or uniforms - that they are turned off by the same things I dislike is sheer coincidence.
