Not at this point. I think it’s clearly Leonhard……then everyone else. If it’s not Kane he goes to Purdue to be Walters DC. Not as worried about losing Henry as I was when Walters was first hired.
Yeah once you said Kane isn't a given my direct thought is he bolts to Purdue for DC and Leonhard is DC

I didn't want to be scared with a CA or PR appearance from BB's past staff days

I think your comment about Kane not being on the recruiting trail with them says a lot. However, how worried are we that Kane maybe is upset we're potentially after Leonhard, he bolts for PU, we miss out on Leonhard?

Not saying it still won't be Kane but the longer this plays out the less likely I think it will be him. He isn't on the road recruiting right now. FYI
If Kane goes to Purdue he will always be in Walters shadow. Better he stay at Illinois or go somewhere else.

What? If he goes to Purdue he’s going to Purdue to be a DC.
I think he means Walters will always get the credit for defensive success at Purdue, as he was brought in to be a defensive guru. Kane would be viewed positively, but teams may not hire him if they think he is a product of Walters.

Would we trade at least 2 years of Kane as DC for potentially 1 year of Leonhard as DC?
Yes. This would mean we could get any DC we want now. The last two guys would have gotten HC jobs quickly. All of the hotshots would be banging on our door trying to get that chance.

I get it. But he gets passed over for DC here and he won’t get credit. It’ll go to whoever gets hired. And he’ll get a nice pay raise at Purdue.(if that happens)

So Kane not being out recruiting leads me to believe he's gone.
it leads me to believe he’s not sure if he’s DC at Illinois or DC at Purdue come Monday

but he can’t recruit with that in doubt . it looks terrible if he ends up leaving

JL has 5 years experience as Wiscy’s DC and a lifetime of recruiting connections through gout the B1G footprint .

he’s the “bigger fish “

Yeah, it's just honest curiosity. Like I get what Leonhard has done has been really solid, but Kane already knows the team and has recruited a bunch.

That would be a surprising twist to things.

BUT it would make sense for Kane if you think about it. Instead of taking over a stellar defense that Walters gets credit for, he could do it himself (so to speak) at Purdue.

If it is Leonhard would Illinois wait until after the bowl game to announce it? He is still a part of that staff until then. If that is the case the earliest we would hear about Jim Leonhard would be 12/28.

Leonhard has all the connections to the Wisky players and recruits

Our defense was awesome this year and it is obvious Walters and his staff could develop players. JL has years of success. The fact we are having this debate shows the progress we made

Was Leonhard in the running for the PU job or was Walters the top pick?
