He helped us go 5-7 and 8-4. I don't think we need to alert the sculptors for his statue.

He's a good coach we would have liked to keep, but let's not forget both Bielema and Kane are also former Defensive Coordinators. It's not like they were just sitting around as spectators just doing what they were told.

And while Walters was surely viewed as a top up and coming DC, I think very few would not rate Leonhard as a better DC. He was offered the DC role for the Packers and turned it down.
We have to keep in mind that matching this year’s defensive stats will be tough. That won’t mean whoever is in charge of the D isn’t doing as good a job as RW (hopefully better). He’s gone and it’s time to move on and get behind the next guy. Lamenting him leaving can only make the next guys job tougher.

IDK if it was previously scheduled about the bowl game or not, but apparently Bielema has a press conference tomorrow at 2 pm. Announcement coming??

Believe this was scheduled prior to Walters departure, so doubtful he announces anything concrete tomorrow regarding the DC position.

Also do HCs themselves ever break the news? Feels like some sort of leak or announcement from the school proceeds a presser.

I know - not sure about his point

25 year old people that work in banks are into job titles , not so much anywhere else.
Its what you do every day from 7am-5pm that matters, not some words under you name on a business card
This is so true. Numerous times I was given an executive title just so they could justify paying me. The title had nothing to do with the job I was doing. I remember working in a multi-billion dollar corporation and my direct boss and I had to make up a title and pay grade for me. We had a lot of laughs doing that.

It matters in the fact that we are trying to predict whether the Illinois defense will stay top notch or not on a message board. Illinois had 4 coaches, Bielema, Kane, Buh, and Walters who have D1 experience as DC's and now they have 3. We'll find out soon enough whether RW was a savant who masterminded everything or if an experienced coaching staff worked together and had a stud lockdown CB that made everything that much easier to gameplan around. I'd guess that with the Bielema track record that we'll be fine. If he could identify RW, why couldn't he identify the next guy?

I also root for the front of the jersey and not the back. So I don't plan on supporting RW at all. The goal is to be better than Purdue on game day and in the eye's of recruits. And in a zero sum game Illinois can only win at the expense of other teams, like Purdue, losing.
-"I also root for the front of the jersey and not the back." Good thing your not a Purdue fan. That could get confusing.

My point is, BB can get creative and create a role for Leonard that spans both offense and defense - You can call it whatever you want to, but if it's for enough money and under a HC that he trusts that will create opportunities for a HC job after a year, that would be pretty appealing I would think. I don't think Leonard would want just a DC job either, he can get that anywhere. So, better to move Kane into the DC job and create something new for Leonard

You mean something like this? It worked on The Office.

since one poster was concerned about his weight, I've heard he's announcing that he's going keto.

A lot of people are concerned about his weight. Frankly I think it's fine to be worried about his health, but I'm not thrilled when people use derogatory language about it(not so much here, but other places like Reddit and Twitter are just awful).

Absolutely nothing wrong wanting coach to be healthy and happy for his family and Illinois football. We should not be mean about it but encouraging him to start walking with BU isn't such a bad thing. Maybe they can both work up to a run club with Whitman.

I was thinking Leonhard or Kane in no order

You aren't going to blow my mind and bring in a name from the past BB has worked with that isn't currently on the staff, Are you?

Not at this point. I think it’s clearly Leonhard……then everyone else. If it’s not Kane he goes to Purdue to be Walters DC. Not as worried about losing Henry as I was when Walters was first hired.
