Agreed - the two-tone needs to go only on white or one of the greys.

Do not touch the gray it is by the best looking uniform and is super clean looking using only orange and white for all the details.

I meant on t-shirts, not the uniforms. I wouldn't touch the uniforms either. They're only putting it on the orange or blue t-shirts from what I've seen though and it looks bad.

It's on some gray T-shirts that I've seen and it looks almost respectable on those. I agree, looks terrible on orange or blue because then it just blends right into the background and we have a cut-off version of 1LL1NO1S.

After seeing all of the b-ball unis(except for Groce's secret unis) my only big complaint is the Illinois lettermark. Generic, IMO. That is all, carry on.

I originally posted this in the football version of the uni thread but it's more appropriate here.

I did not like the grey uni's, they are bland and look like most other schools grey unis. I do like the zig-zags, they are unique and one of a kind. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Methinks some of you are blind. :D

I'm still waiting for lamp.

I hope the 'mystery' uni is a Fighting Illini uni with some sort of an updated look.

I thought the grey unis looked pretty sharp, but they would have looked better with some zig zags

Didn't care for them at the reveal, don't much care for them now.

Anyone know a good place to order the new jersey for kids? I'm striking out online everywhere. Pretty much only adult large or xl

#113
Anyone know if the throwbacks from today will be sold retail?

Can we d keep the fighting illini uni's as our mains? Do we have them in all 3 colors? They are so pretty. Simple, yet glorious.

I'd like to see a "faux-back" uniform that looks like the braggin rights unis but with the current font.

The Fighting Illini uniforms have always been my favorite, but just doesn't have the throwback feel without the chief on the shorts.

+1. The '88-'89 throwbacks are the Yankee pinstripe of Illini uniforms.

I would like to see those as a regular jersey. I don't care if the font doesn't fit the rebrand, those jerseys personify Fighting Illini basketball.

In fact, the rebrand should have used that font IMO. Bold, classic, identifiable, already part of our culture and history.

Great for fans, but not as much for recruits. Recruits like the flashier, newer stuff. The throwbacks are great as an alternative, but you dont blow away recruits with a permanent throwback.

I read this on the message board but does anyone really know if it's true? Somehow Penn State gets football players even though they wear practive uniforms in games. I suspect they like the tradition. I also suspect some of their recruits reject them because they aren't flashy.

The question that begs an answer is whether tradition trumps trendy or whether the uniforms really don't make much of a difference.

The thing about throwbacks like the ones we wore on Saturday is, they are iconic because of the people who originally wore them. Had Bruce Pearl caught the integrity bug, we could well have won a national title in, say, 1992 and we'd all be clamoring to see these:

It's not the design. It's the memories evoked by the design. And the current players and recruits don't have access to those memories. They weren't alive.

You want to know how old we are? Lou Henson coached his last game at Illinois on March 13, 1996. Michael Finke was born 44 days later.

I wonder if the current players at Duke and Carolina lament that their unis don't look significantly different than they did 20 or 25 years ago? At least in terms of lettering/number style.

Duke this year is actually a return to form after over a decade of shoehorning black into their uniforms, which was a very stale trend indeed.

And UNC has added their argyle motif since the Jordan days, which is a pretty significant change. Plus, powder blue is uniform steroids. They're cheating, there's no comparison.
