It's McCown. Not McNown or McGowan. McCown.

well, as an Illinois fan I like it. But what in the world makes you think anyone would want to poach him?
I think I said I would like it if it would happen (for the same reason you do plus I have a soft spot for the Buffaloes). That is not the same as saying that I think it would actually happen (it won't). Kinda like the difference between hoping I win the lottery vs. thinking that I will win the lottery (I won't). Those are two very different things.

Wow, Wyoming is no joke 3-1 and beating really good BYU team in Provo.. Damn, I wish we had that Indiana game mulligan and Tariq not injured and several other young men. We are cooking with gasoline currently.

It is very possible that NW goes 1-11 this season. Does Fitz survive that? It’s tough to say. He made it to the championship game in 2018 and 2020. My hope is that some in-state kids thinking about going there will decommit.

I’m pretty sure they just said they have lost the last 9 out of 10. That would be 17 of 18.

Btw how smart does Terah Edwards look now? LOL

By the way, watching this OU-K-State game, has any announcer been on a faster career rise than Jason Benetti?

Props to him. Not a White Sox fan, but love listening to him there. And college basketball with Robbie Hummel (and even Bill Walton!), now doing a great job (IMO) with national college football too?....big fan of his.

Benetti took the job at FOX just last month and they'll give him a better opportunity than what he was ever going to get on ESPN. For college football, he's on the #2 team with Brock Huard. With ESPN, he was usually stuck with some random Friday Night game that either has a bottom tier Power 5 team or some random Group of 5 game. He's also set to call college hoops as well as some MLB games for the network too.

I have a feeling he will fill Buck's shoes one day. Joe Buck seems pretty gracious for everything he has and has hinted during Howard Stern interviews that it might be getting close to someone filling his spot.

Good stuff. Thanks. On a sidenote, I don't realize how all these contracts work for announcers. Obviously it looks like Benetti is free to ditch the White Sox when he needs to to also do these college games. And I know he's also doing those NBC peacock baseball games. I'm just impressed with how prepared he always sounds; to me, it seems he always does his homework for college sports and you'd never gues he spends his summers doing baseball. Plus I enjoy his sense of humor and self-depricating nature.

And thanks to you HoosierLand for all your recaps on the state teams, college trivia and everything else.

no, conventional book says you should go for 1 there to make it a 10 point spread and give you a chance to tie it with a TD and FG.
being down by 11 sucks as then you need to keep chasing that 2 pointer .
True but if you are down 10 and give up a touchdown you are down 3 scores. In hindsight if they kicked both extra points they are only down 3 when they get the onside kick so a completion or penalty and they have the chance for a tying field goal so you are probably right

Alumnus. He's got purple in his veins. I think he survives a single 1-11 season.

And yes, I hope it leads to several decommits, a pipeline south to Champaign, and a follow-up 1-11 season for the Wildcats in 2023!

Took a look at 24/7 to see what in-state kids Northwestern has in tow for 2023. Surprisingly, at least according to them there isn’t a lot of overlap with Illinois.

9. (state rank). Damon Walters/S — Bolingbrook — Illinois offer prior to NW; took official to IL in June, after he committed to NW.
12. Anthony Birsa/IOL — Joliet Catholic — no Illinois offer or interest noted
14. Frank Covey/ATH — Mount Prospect — no Illinois offer but Illinois interest noted
21. Aiden Gray/QB — Naperville North — no Illinois offer or interest noted.

Two NW commits not from IL were also offered by Illinois. The most interesting is probably Tyler Gant/DT — Christian Brothers College (STL). Ranked #599, he visited IL after commitment to Northwestern. Other NW crossover is Nigel Glover/LB — Ohio. Ranked #290 and IL was actually his first offer.

What a great weekend of college football beginning from last Thursday night! And now On (to) Wisconsin!!

BB has his priorities in order as he spoke in his last presser that the Madison press wanted to do articles on his return to Madison but he turned them down because he said this is about the UofI, not him.. Very well said!
