Frankly not excited about getting Walton. Now if takes care of the problem of being physically manhandled or rather nearly being overwhelmed by a hs running back. Then we got a prize.

I like Tymar Sutton more but he is a good pickup. We need 2016 linebackers to redshirt. 2017 depth chart at LB is scary. Tre Watson, Julian Jones, and Austin Roberts is it before this

While both Walton and Ruff have some impressive physical tools both and equally disturbing holes in their game currently that need to be overcome. Ruff very tough and strong physical lacking the ability to read and read act well. Walton very god speed and recognition lacks strength and power almost getting or getting run over. Both can be developed but they should be better at their deficiency's at this stage. Each a 5.55 or low 3* for me currently both guys I would like to see senior tape on after the season.

If you are grading both Walton and Ruff equally, why do you think that Ruff has the offer sheet that he does and Walton basically has none? Do coaches feel it is better to take the physical player with the idea that you can coach the ability to read and react? I think back to Tez, who had all of the physical skills in the world, but never really seemed to show the instincts to play to his potential. Wondering if it is better to take the instinctive kid and give him a couple of years to build the size and strength.

I think Tez was playing out of position. He had, IMO, perfect ILB size at 6'4 250, but didn't have the coverage instincts. I think he should have been put on a strength program and put at DE.

St. Louis Post Dispatch preseason Super 30 has Palmer at 14, Simms at 8, and Moran at 6. Ballard is at 3. Seems like the staff is on the right path in the STL area.

HIghest grade of the aforementioned lbs was Justice he got a 5.7 3* :Dfrom me the rest from 5.55 to 5.65.:)

Justice is a stud and but I thought Star is more of a Rover position than a true Linebacker. For the Will and Mike there is only 3 players total in 2017 right now.

Ken Ruff is apparently getting recruited as someone they could bulk up into a Defensive End. They need 2 more SDE or Leo recruits this class no matter what though. Most likely amother DT as well

That is an excellent question. One thing is the old adage beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and why some guys get taken in the late rounds or free agency in the draft. Doug at rivals wrote something I found interesting yesterday and agree with completely. Paraphrasing here Ruff can play both lb or de I think he said sde and that he preferred him there. For me there was a huge difference in watching Ruff at the 2 positions. While seeming hesitant to use the tools at lb he just attacked the few times he was on the line.
There was an announcer say 20 years ago who had a line I loved that fits Ruff at de 'he knows the difference between come here and sickem.:cool:
Almost forgot as a de leo first then maybe sde Ruff is a 5.7 3* as opposed to a 5.55. If I had seen more plays out the de slot it might have been higher.

My bad made the Ruff post before reading this and if they land Ruff and play him there nice. But according to Doug if memory serves that was a'maybe' for playing on the line. The one reason I did not assume he would play de from the tape is he was listed as 6'1 and not particularly long to boot.

Thanks. We could use a few more guys over on the SDE that know "sick em!.

I don't expect Illinois to make a move.. his grades are thumbs downnnn

Do you know anything about Brokop? He is looking around but is it only to teams out West and further from Illinois?

I watched Watts tape this early this afternoon. Like many that I could not find several months ago, that has changed much more available now. I watched 5 others but will only post presently on Watts.
I see why there was such a buzz about him and will ask if there is anyway he could get his academics up to qualify by Feb.?
On to what I saw first is he might be a sde if he keeps his weight 280 and under and develops a better burst, quick twitch. It did improve some by the end of the tape. That is where I placed him on my depth chart of those I have seen tape of to date.
He can stack at the the line and come off make a play on a qb or rb. He is well coached and already show good moves for hs kid but must work hard to improve and develop counters. He goes hard till the whistle blows, and is usually around the ball at the end of the play, showing vision and the ability to read the play as it develops.
VVg sp, qu, burst, st and power. St and power bordering on vvg-ex, imo a 3* 5.7 or high 3 star kid. Would make a nice addition as I think he will be at the 3 tech by his rs- soph or jr year If he ads 30 lbs he is a 3tech.
