I get Tech has some oil money donors, but in what world would it be easier to make a Final Four at Texas Tech compared to Illinois?
how are the first part and 2nd part of this sentence compatible?

Do you get points for historic win/loss record? If you have the money to bring in players, and a great coach, Canisius make a Final 4.

That's one thing that has shocked me so far. No small school with huge money donors has come out of the woodwork. I guess the closest thing so far has been BYU.

i find it funny that everyone is going after Tyler- nothing was said last year when we had a top 5 rated offense, or even this year when we were rolling and our ratings were top 10 in offensive efficiency. Look the offense is set up for pick and roll and our guards to read and kick to open shooters. That part is working. If you take an honest assessment we are getting wide open shots. Exactly what the offense is set up for. We just can’t make them. And yes, maybe the coaches missed on these portal guys, but all of them have shot a worse % from 3 than last year. I think a big mistake that Underwood made this year is scheduling so many top 15 caliber teams knowing that we are young and relying on so many freshman. The big ten is a tough conference, we don’t need all these non conference powerhouses.
Nepotism is fine if the results show that the son is capable. Few would have had an issue with Miles Smith if we were going 9-3 in football.

:) I love your online handle. I believe we are from the same era, at Illinois. You better not be my wife's secret online handle or I am going to be in trouble ....

Like you, I like Chris Collins as a coach. I think he is very good.

No way do I think he is the guy for the Illinois job though. It's ridiculously hard to accomplish what the Illinois is capable (some day) of accomplishing. At least from my perspective. :)
Honestly, I'm pretty happy with Brad, but those years before him were so bad. Lou built the program into something solid, then Lon Krueger did a nice job, and things were going well when he took the NBA job, and Bill Self was hired. Of course he was great while we had him, and losing him was a huge blow. Bruce Weber could coach, and while he had all that great talent, it was great. Unfortunately, after a few years, we just weren't getting the most "elite" players. Don't get me started on the Groce years. Both Bruce Weber and John Groce were good people/coaches but they just couldn't get the talent. I thought maybe Chris Collins could do both, and I hate to see him go to either Iowa or Indiana where we would have to go up against his teams without the "constraints" of Northwestern's academic standards. FYI, I came to U of I with Lou Henson, in the 75-76 year, and graduated in 79 (the year Eddie Johnson and Mark Smith's Illini beat Magic's MSU team. Since I moved to St. Louis after college, I would only see the Illini in the Braggin' Rights game and whenever they had nationally televised games. These last 5-6 years since Brad brought us back, I've been able to watch almost every game.

All I know for sure is Brad Underwood has lost a lot of the fans. Winning cures all but illinois can't seem to win without coaching.
Yes he has and it will be real interesting to see how it effects their all new fantastic ERA seating bullcrap. They will lose season ticket holders. Sadly he was getting things turned around and headed in the right direction but there will be empty seats next year.

Denver coach Jeff Wulbrun was put on leave on Friday for the remainder of the season. Denver assistant and former UNC player Shammond Williams was named the interim head coach.

Not even sure which direction you're implying. Nowhere near as bad or nowhere near as good?
We just lost by 43 on national stage

I’d love to have a coach like Gard, who seems to retain talented players and help non-star freshman eventually turn into great seniors. I always wonder why we lose so many players to the portal each year. And he has completely changed Wisconsin’s offense to match today’s players skills.
Underwood's teams at Illinois have always had high turnover. Does Underwood's background as a JC coach, where roster turnover is high every year, contribute to his comfort with high roster churn?

Based on what I’m reading in this thread, there are discussions between brad/his agent and Texas
its not real. Brad was close to taking the job during the cycle when they hired Shaka, so anytime that job opens up his agents try to squeeze us for more. Brad isn't going anywhere. Texas definitely wont want to pay $16m for a 61 year old coach, especially after this year he is having. Brad is staying.

I don't think Iowa would be a big enough jump for Collins to take. Indiana I could see, but as I said previously I think he's too at home at Northwestern to go anywhere.
I hope he stays at NW. I agree with you that Iowa wouldn't be an upgrade for him unless it was a very large bag of money. IU scares me, though I think he'll go with Beard. Mainly, I don't want my most hated teams (Iowa, Indiana and Michigan) to have good coaches. Michigan has already achieved that, I'm hoping the other two don't!

First post, long time reader and like everyone else here I love my Illini basketball. You want to get rid of Brad Underwood (myself included)? Anger only gets you so far, Josh Whitman can tune out the the grumbling and the boo birds. Apathy he CAN"T ignore with his eyes. Two home games left...DON'T GO!! Don't be like cub fans and reward mediocrity and keep filling the seats. Lastly, just wishful thinking here....Hire John Beilein to coach out the season.

I would like BU to stay but only if he makes the right coaching changes….If he doesn’t than there are going to be some problems.

I'm as big a BU fan as there is but thoughts like this have unfortunately been rattling around in my empty skull for a few weeks. I couldnt quite put it into words, thank you for boiling it down to a short easy to understand sentence.

We hear coaches (especially HFCBB) talk about demeanor a lot. I hate BU's new demeanor. I miss fiery BU on the sidelines. I hate BU sounding like Tim frickin Beckman in post games.
If we hear Brad saying team is eating "beans and weenies" this week...I'm out.

I am reaching a point where I care more about some decency on the basketball court

I believe it’s more his “scream in your face, insult your family, break you down “ mentality. If you think I am making this up, I am not. I know firsthand from players and players’ families. He has mellowed a bit but still, that’s BU.
